Among the pleasant local occurrences of the year is the celebration of the anni versary of the Elliott Hook und Lad 1 r Company, This recurs on the 30ih day .if November of each year. The la-t celebration of this ooasiou t0?k place last Saturday. The 'company paraded in tho afternoon, presenting a hiudsome npp arance. Their Truck was most exquisitely decorated with wreaths and roses. This was the work of the ladies, and was a bright and beautiful express ion of their interest iu this enterprising and noble company. In tho evening tho company, with their numerous invited guests sat down in their new hall to a most bounteous and well prepared supper. Ample just ice waa done to the delight ful rcpaBt, and when the clatter of knife and murmur of congeniality subsided, a "f ast of reason, and flow of soul" en sued. Music of roro amatur order threw ite graceful charm over the scene \ Speech, sentiment and 6oug, eloquence wit and humor, all in pleasant variety, characterized the passing of the evening. Among the good speeches were those of J. W. DcTrtville Esq., Stiles It. Mcllichamp Esq , James H.-Fowlcs Esq., the Rev. Mr. Brown, and A. B. Knowl too Esq*, One little episode created a round of merry amusement. The toast to our "City Fathers" was announced. And lo ! there was none to respond. After a moment of awkward silence such as ensues when there is nobody in tho congrcgat:ou "to raise the hymn, the band burst out with tho lively air, "No body's child." The point wa? rccoguiz ed aud a burst of merry applause rung throngh the room. The ocoasion was a happy ono. Tho cvtuiug sped away aud at a lato hour t;,0 celebrants departed, wgll pleased with themselves. I Wo were present, but got there very late uud made a very poor speech.
