A Canine Martyr.?Ihe following story'is from tbo Nnshvillo Uoion : Whoa coutumely is sought to bo giv en a person the name of a dog is often used, and yet this bru'c meat frequent ly of any other is man's best friend and faiflilul protector. Wednesday afternoon an Mis. G. Woodruff waB in her yard, near the race track, she saw a mad dog making towards her, evidently desirous of making u? attack. Being some dis tance from the house?too far, in fact jtci reach the door before tho mad dog could soizo her?the affrighted lady ? thought of her owu faithful dog, whioh ho called to her assistance! Hearing the Ecreams and call of her mistro. s tho dog with an alacrity which seemed to spring from a coosciousshess of im pending dangor, bounded forward in time to attack the mad dog just as tin infuriated beast was about to seize Mrs Woodruff. Now eusued a couflictbetwoen the two dogs which lasted two or three minutes, enabling Mrs. Woodruff to get into her house and shut the door. It was doubtful which would prove the mastery, ?heu a oolorcd man came to the scene of conflict. No sooner had he ncared the dogs than the rabid one at tacked the colo:od man, wh< having jdck cd up a fence rail defended himself as lest bo ctu'd. It was with diffioulty he kept clear of tho dog, which endeavored to spring upon him, but was fiually fell ed lo tbe ground and killed by the col " or cd man. Mrs. Woodruff's faithfil ani mal was badly bittcu and considerably worsted, though it saved the lile of its mistress. Yesterday this dog gave cvi _ deuce of hydrophobia, when it was found ncccKsary to kill tho animal which had saved u human being from a horrid fate. All Rjuiit.?How many of us use the expression a half dozen times a week, und have it slick in tho throat at least half of them. It is comming tobe hypo critical appendage of business and so cial intercourse. A sponger goes behind the counter cuts off a dime's worth of tobacco or cheese, with an excuse that he wants a "sample," and the grocery man says ''that's all right." A customer returns a pair of shoes to the dry goods man, soil-d and injured af ter a half day,s wear, grunting "they are too small,"and the merchant says, "that's all right." A church member puts his name down lor $25 to j ay the pre .eher, and when called on gives only ?10, with the remark that ' times are too hard," and the parson says, "that's all right." A loufer makes a regular practice of coming into a printing office aud Leg ging a copy of the paper, statiug that he "just Wonts to read it," and the edition is short ; the editor groans with polite* ntss, that's all right." An extravagant debtor tells a patient creditor every time he meets him that h intends to pay the account "to morrow, certain/' aud the poor dun turns of with "that's all right." Aud so it goes. It's ail Wrong, and we say its all right, and by our want ol spirit and independence encourage lazi ness, imposition, stiugiucss and every other sin under the sun. Boys, Bights?By a Boy.?Tall about tbe women and the darkies, aid the?the?all the rest of 'em; mine ol 'em nil are half so badly used as boys are. Ask any boy. I know a lot, and I can give you all their names. Ask 'em all. . They'll toll you, to bo ahoy is t<> besomebody without a right iu this \\< rid You are to tako all tho sass that's given to you ant! give none back/cause you're n boy. You arc to pay full fare in the cars and omnibuses, cause you arc a boy, and not less aud a child and not a map, Vat lady gets in after it's nil full, an l looks about her; everybody looks at you. Old gentleman says, "My Bon," reprovingly.. Conductor says. "Come, now. vou bnv." Yrm'va n-.i.l yoqr sixpence. No matter?that is not h ing. You've bceu on your legs, with bun dies, all day. Who caretf?you're n boy. Now a horso has such a load giv en him as ho can carry aud a man won't tuko any more than than he nan walk under. Ask boys what grown folks think they can carry. There's no limit to it. Who doesn't know a boy who docs u mans work, and then does it well, for a tenth of what a man would get foi it Who hasu't read an advertisement for a biy who writes a good hand, under, stands aceouuts, is willing to make him Bclf useful, boards with bis parents, is trustworthy, no objection to Bitting up all night, not anxious for meals at regu l?r hours, no impudcuco about him; th< best rocomenddotion rcquisted and two dollars a week wages? You look ba k and wonder if you ever were that pretty little fellow in petticoats that everybody stuffed with candy; and you wonder if you'll ever be a man, and bo liked by the girls, and treated politely by the other fellows, and paid for your work, and allowed to do as you choose. Simple suit aud water cleans und preserves muttin more effect tuny thun t py other, method. ?:iTj.xoa ararj wit 4 starts.^ ?ctihoav ami, clnhoh tit ctios out 'sisyxu&vo putftflinuy puo fvoftovj^ au aaavaau ? ?mu eonprpoui aeqio ojonii 'go-ma oiqinriutuOJ Am.u Xuwui Supnp -OJd puu '.mia;j.n: Xqiruaq om| joaii oip Hupcpi -uips 'Xpauiaj luaipoxa uv ?| )|'joaj-i oqi jo aij ?yidjoi uiojj Su{W]ju '*):i::>i<iuto;j a.iayj jo.i 'Bpjujjv Apaiuaj ?|ip upp ?ooiojd oqi jo eaApstuoqi ijuau Xoqi ij pjuAjqiu -J91UI uiojj JOJjtlS JOAO ppU av8j puu 101110 UUqi uopjaiojd joj oiquupiA ojom uoao b| ii oauoji ?atjU3V]p o)u| uod|.\ o) Aipuunb luopyjtiB \\\ owraiunoou louuwa pun 'uioihXb oqi uiojj paiaao ?xo oq f[|Av jvni 'notpajui oqi o% posodxo onqAi Xjjup ?"?
