A^Iiy)AY^JAy,23, 1871. est vras held in Caw-Cuw d?bo Tmeday hut by Trial Jus J. Feld ?r Meyers, on t'o body uc! J. Carson, Mr. Meyers ar ilaea of interment directly ?hovel of dirt had bceo upon the grave ; aud finding that his death' wris ono of those which invited investigation by a Jury of inquest, issued veriere for a Jury, aud had the body 'disinterred. Dr. Kennedy was in atter dance, and nfter having carefully exam ined the deceased, deposed that his skull was fractured in a manner to cause sufficient depi-ettsion upon his bruin to induce death ; that he made an inciaiou nod pott, mortum examination, and did not think the injury on his chest suffi cient to have caused death. Several witoejpes were sworn, but no one could tell the cause ol his demise?2 The verdict of the Jury was: "That the deceased came to his death from in juries received from somo unknown cause, and the exposure undergone sub ?K, sequent to their infliction." ? " The facts of the case as far as we have been able to collect them arc as follows: That Mr. Carson' left Orangeburg on Saturday afternoon last in a state of in toxication ; that the mule which he was riding at the time is one exceedingly vicious; that about nine miles above here he was picked up on Sunday morning in- tt speech less condition ; that he was borne homo, and although medical aid was had, life was too for gone for him to derive any benefit or apparant ease from it * . Tho ..deceased was quite nn elderly gentleman, aud as a citizen appreciated I in the community which he resided. Our sympathies are extended to his friends in this their hour of "loom. Fiuk.?On wonday l?>t about 12 o'clock our whole Town was. in the itwtukling of an eye, thrown into a furore ?ofexcitement and confusion over the cry of "fire ! We were upon the street at the time, and we must confess that ?our wits were so addled by tho noise, if hat at firwt it was hard for us to deter jnine what was the matter. This mm -would run this way, and that one the other. The Young Americas, and the Elliotts, however, nil went iu the same direction. The fire occurred upon the roof of Mr. Rigg's house; and had it not been extinguished so soon, the con sequence would have been that the whole business part of our ^beautiful Town would have to-day been in nahe*. Tlfe originof the fire is supp-sed to have been a spark from the ?hiojney. All praise is duo to our worthy Fire Depart ment foj the promptness with which they acted. One regretful fact though ?ras discoverable. The Hook and Lad der Truck is in an inconvenient and out of-the-way place in oasc of real emergen cy.
