_Hjk O C .A. I.. 8ATURDAY, JANUARY 6, 1870. ?___ We regreot to learn of the death of Mrs. 0. Hv. Murrow, an old and esteem ed mile?t: of Oraugcburg. She died jetterdny morning about 7 o'olbck,, after a ?h?rt illness. Court.?-The Court of General Sec tions and Common Pleas met on Mon day lust at 2 o'clock, P. M; Judge Car penter as usual .ready for business. K. B. Scabrock, Esq., is acting Solicitor, for this term. The Cuurt has been engaged during the week in the trial of Stute ?cases. None of these nre of great im portance or of an aggravated nature. A new indictment has been givcu out against V. V. L. Inabiuet fur Bastardy, ?upon which the Grand Jury has return* ?cd a true bill. The Sessions docket is toot very large and tho Court will take tip the civil cases after this week. To-day is appointed as sentence day. The Grand Jury presented thoir re port, yesterday afternoon, and were dis charged. The report will be published next week. SALE Day.?Monday last was a '-fear T?l day." Oraugcburg has never been tuoro crowded. The merry spirit of meeting, and the oVdd, raw day prompt ed conviviality. Alas! that conviviality should find expression these days in such deep and frequent draughts! The fes tive genius of happy reunion, with its genial joviality, gives place to the revel and riot ot Bacchus. Drunkenness mars and degrades these ?occasions. Wc aro no "preachers or temperance-lecturers," but nouo could witness the 'drunkenness, that stalked ?and ran riot on our str ets on Monday last, nor see and hear of its dread, and bloody sequels, without a shudder. It acas frightful ! {Some amendment, sonic remedy, to this increasing d?*tuoralisati <n mnst conic, or this vice will be our curse and ruin. The enow in the cveuing fell like natnrc's winding-sheet upon our vil lage. Would that it may be, thbshroud mud the. lmi ill id'such scenes ! 5 he Sheriff Sold 10,862 acres of land for Si3,S3u* and personal property to the a\u.utit of S2.00?. TrjK Ney* Cook.?We call attention 'to the clear and succinct rexunw of the practice and pleadings nt law under the mew Code, which will be adopted at the present session of the Legislature, fur nished by our correspond cut Augustus B.
