AGRICULTURAL, &C. n.t I lo ?i ? ? V'-'i ? 5 R ... -,.-> Ume Around Apple Trees. Wte hove known furniere to make it a regu lar practica for a euccession of years, to throw caustic limo around their apple trees in the sprang and summer. We onco noticed that a tree standing in the immediate vicinity of our dwelling had, all at onoc, put forth with re newed energy, and we wcro at a loss for some time to define the cause. On examination we found that a quantity of lime which had accidentally been tpilled and rendered worth less by becoming mixed with the refuse of the stable floor, had been thrown at tho foot and around tho tree, and to this, as the principal cause, we immediately ae rcditcd it and pur chased twelve casks of lime, and applied half | a bushel to j each of the trees in our orchard, and found that it produced immeditcly hone ficinl effects, i Not the health of tho trees only, but the quality of the fruit also, wns greatly improved. This application will be especially beneficial in soils where there it a redundancy of vegetable matter. Wo would adviso our farmers/some places, especially in new forest lands, to make tho experiment, aud see if it is not deserving of the high recommendation it Bccnrcs. Fertilizers.
