scries, which is now being universally adopted
in the schools of the South.
? Incendiarism.
On last Sunday night, or rather on Monday
morning before daylight, Easterlies Steam
Saw Mill, situated on the Biuuickcr's Bridge
Road in tho Fork of Edisto, twelve miles from
.this place, was discovered to bo on fire. The
"flames at tho time of discovery wore so far ad
vanced, as to rondcr all attempts to save the
mill, or the lumber alongside of it, utterly
iutile. The mill was entirely consumed, and
about 8evoaty-five thousand feet of lumber.
There is no doubt that it was the work of
incendiaries. ? .
Th? loss of'Mr. Easterliti is at least four
thousand dollars') aud the property was not
insured. Mr. Easterliti has offered a liberal
reward for the detection and conviction of any
?one of the offenders concerned in this nefarious
act.

Crom the garden of Mr. Christian Akant,
actor -this place. It came up in the midst of a

?ad weighs four pounds. It is of the "Bed
Top" species, and truly tops all w'o have read

our midst by sudden death.

this as a warning to prepare in life for death.
Resolved,. That Principal, Teachers and
Scholars teudcr to the surviving mother and
sister, their deep and heartfelt sympathies, that
God would comfort them in their affliction,
cheer them in their loneliness and give them
that "peace which passeth understanding*' to
enable their, to endure this their fresh trial.
Resolved, That we wear the usual badge of
mourning for ten days as a token of respect to
Sallic's memory.

stricken parents and sisters mourn their loss, they
