Always Dying. Life, indeed, consists iu a series ot changes of tissues, and the human econ oiuy is simply as (ar as its material pari is concerned, a machine, and primarily depends on food as the most important factor in keeping it in working order. When it is said that we commence to die as soou as we are born, it of course means that certain parts of the body immediately begin to perish; their existence is ephemeral; they come aud go, are replenished and decay. They are the dying parts of that system of life, which may last a little while, but which must eventually yield to the inexorable law of nature. The nails, the hair, etc., are observable as an instauce of this decay. The sauie rulo applies to every other organ and tissue of the body, though it is not palpable to the nate 1 eye. It has.nine by twelve inch cylinders, and can pull a load of forty tons up a grade of one in fifteen on i good hard road. Generally, however, :t has been found that the most economical load for good roads and moderate grades is about twice the weight of the engine, and under such circumstances the largest s'ze will require from 800 to 900 pounds oi coal in ten hours. Old rags are a familiar instance of this change. Woolen rags are more slowly converted into final products than those of cotton and linen, because they are valuable for intermediate usee.
