ceutury, Prof. Samuel P. 1). Morse, has
brought into use tho clcctro-maguoiic telegraph
by moans of which electricity, at the
will and pleasure of those in charge, may
deliver messages at any part of the world,
and trnnsnm answers to such messages
almost instantaneously. A telegraphic despatch

between the two boats of a common clock.

Another thing that has excited the admiraof
tho world and is tho pride and boast
df our country and times, is the rapid transit.
At the prosent time a journey from the Atlantic
seaboard to the shores of the Pacific,
a distance of thirty-six hundred miles, can
be accomplished in about six days which, as
recent as 1819, requirod many months of
weary travol for its accomplishment.
To chronicle the constantly increasing Ijst
of wouderful app'iances would require an
octavo volume in itself, so we will oonfinc
ourselves to tho wouders which will mark
the next quarter century and perhaps be
more striking than tiro old "seven wonders
of the world."
In less than twenty-five years Union and
Chester will bo brilliantly lighted with
electricity, generated at Lockhart Shoals, and
shafting will not be used in any of the large
factorils which, it is predicted, will be in
opiration at tint time at the above named
pi ices. Electricity will entirely take its
place. Shaftings, it is said, wastes 40 per
Ceut. of the power when they are doing the
^ . ond in the intervals, wlion tbey arc
not at work, there is oomplete loss. Electricity
is instantly available, and can bs turned
off and on in a moment's time. In using
storm power tho basements of the buildings
liave to po occupied by huge engines which
shake the buildings, and further necessitate
great inconvenience in coaling and removing
^shes. In using electricity a power plant
outside of the oity could supply power to
dynamos, which oocupy but little space.

trunk line railroads will ho operated by
electricity, the power in many cuses coming
from waterfalls along tho routes.

this country of ours ma converse, by means
of a tolephono eable, with persons ia Liverpool
or in aojr other part of England, with a
perfect annihilation of all relations between
' time and space In a very short time freight
of all kinds will be transported from one part
of the country to auother. through pneumatic
tubes, by means of compressed a'r,
thus, in a great measure, doing away with
freight trains. The mail also will bo distributed
throughout the country through
tbeso tubes.
No doubt within twenty-five years the
great iaventivo genius of Amorica will have
contrived means by which an individual in
any town or city of oar country will be able
to take in his band a pencil or pen, the
point of which is in another town, no matter
^ how distant, and with pen or pencil, write I
? or delineate in suoh distant place, such
characters or designs as might please him,
with as much promptitude and precision as
jf the poper to which the characters were
oomraiited, lay upon the table before him.
The contemplation of these things will have
beocme so ihterwoven with our habit* that
familiarity will hare blnnted the edge of
