During the war my mother-in-law, near Charleston, S. L\, made them. It was our only light, and a very licautifnl one. All the time while burning they throw out the most delicious odor. In color they arc pale green and their flame looks pink. The bushes of myrtle grow all through the lower part of the State, and the candles are made from the little green berry. Myrtle groves ars plentiful in the lowlands of the Ashley and Cooper, aud there is a dwarf variety that grows in the pine ban en lands. The l>orry is covered with a whitish oleaginous stuff which floats in boiling watei. by which it is detached from the berry. The description of the candle, the odor, etc., is exact.
