MRS. CAROLINE SMITH. . 1
On the ltith., of June, 1890, Mrs. Caroliuo
a Smith, relict of tho lato Ara Smith, Kvq., of
B Union Ceuoty died suddenly, of heart disease,
while on a visit to her ion, Mr. Asa Smith,
Jr., at Pacolot. Sho was born in Spartanburg
County, and was a daughter of Mr. Sum
Sumner, of Glenn Springs Township. '
When about fourteen years of age, sho be- (
came a member of Friendship Baptist Cliurcb. 1
Some years afterwards sho moved to Union *
Ceonty, and liar membership was changed to fl
Fatnara Church. At the time of her deft h
fk she wu about 00 years old.
i^Mrs. Smith was a good and true woman. (
Neble impulses prompted her actions toward <
thors, And she was ohuritablo in her judg- t
ment of people. She wna true to her ,
friends and sympathetio in their misfortunes. ;
The sudden and unexpected manner of her ?
death contributed to render it still sadder to <

A Decision in the Township Railroad
Bond Casks.?The decree of the United
States Circuit Court in the caso of the
Massachusetts and Southern Construction
Company against tho township of Cherokee,
York County, South Carolina, and the Boston
Safe Deposit and Trust Company, better
known as the "township bonds cast," has '
been filed in the olerk's oftioe. This case, it
will be remembered, was hoard before
Judges Bond and Simonton at the May terra.
A multitude of counsel appeared on both
sides, and the arguments occupied several
days. The decree was prepared by Judge
Simontop, and conourrel in by Judgo Bond.
It decides the cose in favor of the railroad,
and orders the bonds in question ti bo delivered
to the company by the Boston Safe
and Dtposit Trust Compiny, in whose custody
they now are.
