Oar inuigi. nary necessities make up the greater part of our wants, and 1 am often reminded of tlie oil but true proverb, that "any fool can make money, but it takes a wise man to kuow how to keep it." Some ouo has said that "chean -roods means; uinl for many Alliance men tliis is only too trite. Stop, brother farmer ; as you and 1 are wishing to belter our condition financially, to educate, refine nud elevate cur childrcu' socially, to make "farming more attractive and country life less lonely," let ns examine our last year's accounts, and see if we can't find many things that we could have done without. Many of the unnecessary articles you purchased may have cost but little?only a few cents?yet, if you take your pencil and cross every one you bought that was uot particularly necdcJ, and could have let alone, you will be surprised by adding up their sum total. Look at a large per cent, of your last year's purchases I that were not nu absolute necessity. And why was this useless expenditure of money T Why did you buythcin? Simply because, in many eases, they were so cheap. My brother, nuything bought that could have been as well let alone, is dear, no matter how cheap.
