But because we have barrooms we need not all gel drunk, and it dees not necessarily follow that we will all make drunkards. We are not obliged to drink beesuse ] A \ Whiskey is for sale legally. The sale of liquor is a great curse to any community; this all good christian people admit, whether they be in favor of bigh license under some circumstances or not. We will not lessen the evils of bai-rooms bj advocating prohibition and criticising the Legislature. Let us meet the issue in a sensible, business like manner. Is it not tho duty of every good citizen of /Chester to see to iL that the bar-rooms do as little barm as possible? Not because he is friend of bar-rooms and wants to show to the world that they are not so great an evil, / but because ho loves his neighbor and his country, and is willing to da what he can for the gool of himself, his neighbor and his country. Let us not be on (he alert to see the evils of bar-rooms simply to say, 'I told you so," bat rather let us search them out to lessen them. Let us show to tho world that, though whiskey is sold in Chester with 1'conse, yet that all of the restrictions thrown around it are striotly enforced. Let tixe barkeepers understand that the law eannot be evaded or broken; that if " they are not punished in one Court they will be in another. Let the temperance people not despair because they have lost prohibition: let them not sulk and grumble beoause they car not have things their own way. There is still work tor tho temperance worker. The young men of our town must have no excuse for resorting to the bar-rooms and gambling dens for amusement and entertainment. They must bo furnished with useful entertainment and innocent amuse?n ent. The christian women havo a wide field for work in this line for the cause of temperance. It tbe return of bar-rooms to Chester will enlist the good men and women of the town in an organised effort against intemperance, and unite them in sealoue work for tho promotion of abstinence and sobriety, it v will not be an unmitigated evil. Have not the temperance people ef Chester been trusting too muoh to our prohibition statute te promote temperance 7 That is gone. Something must be done. What are the good people of tho town going to do to save the young meu of the town 7 In conclusion we ask a question which we consider suggestive : ' If the bar room* of Chester get no patronage from the ohurch members of Chestor county, will they ttour^ ish 7 Citisun. Kow Tiikt Do IT in Tsxas. ?St. I.ouis, Me., January 20.?A special from Fort Worth, Texas, received here \ory late last night, says : "Sheriff Richardson, of this county, rcoeived a telephone message about midnight from Graham, in Yeuug Coutny, to the effect that while a deputy United 8tates marshal, Graham, with a posso cf citizens were eecorting the four Marlon brothers, Buckharl and another man named Fierce to Darker County jail at Weatherford, the prisoners being indicted for four murders and eight cases of horse Mauling, a mob of thirty citizens attempted to lynch them. The marshal and posse defended the prisoners, when a terrible fight took place. Two of the Marlow broibj era wore killed and four of the posse at the first tiro. The fight continued, and another ' one of the Marlows and Pierce were wonnded, and another ono of the citizens mortklly hart. The primmot*, Ptenfe, Mrrhsw and Buckhart, escaped, but all ara said to be wounded. The fight took place two and a half miles from town. It is net known how many of the mob were hurt. A large posse has been made up at Graham, and are in pursuit of the fugitives and the members of the mob. Sheriff Richardson has wired the Sheriffs at Henrietta, Vernon, Wichita, Cisoo, Abilena and Colorado City. Report says that excitement at Graham is at fever heat. The fight took place at 10 o'clock Saturday night. It appears that this affair was a sequel to another that occurred ou Friday night. Boone Marlow, one of the brothers mentioned above, all of whom were of bad reputation and accused of various thefts, killed Sheriff Marion Wallace, of Young County, on the 17th of last December while the latter was attempting to arrest him. Marlow escaped, but his brothers were arrested as accessories. Later they broko jail but were recaptured, and 011*Friday night u mob of about thirty men attaoked the jail at Graham with the purpese sf lynching them. The mob failed in their object, however, and about 0 o'clock Saturday the prisoners, under a strong guard were started fsr Wentherford for safe keeping.
