8aluda, N. C. is one of the pleasantest places to visit in the mountains. Situated as it is, in onoof the best climates in the South, and inhabited bj a people who are generous and progressive, it is fast evolviog into a nioe, bulet little town. It was founded bj Col. A. Tanner, who is now the biggest man in every way. in Polk tlountv. fv?l ? till keeping the Mountain House, where the best peoplo go, where the best table is kept and where the best views oan be had. Among the handsome new residence: recently erected we noticed tlmt of Dr. Oeddinge, of Augusta, and Mr. A. K. Carson, of Florida. Among the large enterprises that have re- j oenlly been organised in tho State is the Berkeley County Land and Stock Compa- . ny, of Charleston, of which the Manufso- , turer's Record says : ] The company has just purohaaed 'J5,000 ] ores of land in Berkeley. County of a varied character. Some of it is suitable for agricultural purposes; a large tract is heavily timbered with virgin pine, and it also contains immense swamps and postures. The swamps are . full of oypress and other valuable timbers. 1 The company intend at once to raise cattle and l other stock for the Charleston Market. They I will also set to work as soon as possible to improve their lands and develop their timber. The capital slock is $100,000, and is entirely held in Charleston. Many of the best business men are stockholders, and it is controlled by n 1 set of young and active men, who are sure to I push it to success.' I .'<*? C., Feb. 24, 1841, and entered into rest July 17, 1887, in Charlotte, N. C. j She was converted to God at the age of fourteen and gavo her young life without reserve to His service with a consecration that ceased not until the throbbing heart was stilled by the ! touch of denth and the Master said 'come up higher.' On tho 2d of Oct., I860, she was happily married to Mr. J. J. Gallman, with whom she lived in affectionate, trusting companionship 1 until God severed the earthly ties whioh He himself had formed. I As a fruit of their union there was given to , them a son, who precceded the mother to the spirit world, and a daughter, who now, bereft of both a companion and a mother, mourns with the father in submissive grief, for they sorrow not as those without hope. As a Christian Mrs. Gallman was not demonstrative but devout and exemplary, loving Christ and flis church, and adorning her life by an upright walk and a Godly conversation. I She was a membor of tho Baptist Church and i loved her church and its members and was interested in its welfare and progress. On a quiet Sabbath morning when the rising sun was gilding the Eastern sky with glory and flooding the earth with splendor, the redeemed spirit left its earthly tenement to mingle with glorified hosts of God in the city that hath no end of the sun or tho moon to shine in it, for the glory of God did lighten it and the lamb is tlfe light thereof.
