\ imtkhbstinu Reminiscences.?Yesterday, the 1st of May, in th? memories of Gen. Johnstone Jones, is full of interesting and abiding recollections. It was the anniversary of the day on which he met, for the first and lost time, the chiefs of the Confederate government, then overthrown by the force of arms, themselves essay- \ ing to escape from the victorious pursuers. , Gen. Jones was a guest of Qen. Wallace, at his residence at Union Court House, 8. C. That , gentleman at the time was a prisoner on parol, , and his son* was a comrade of Gen. J., both , belonging to White's battallion of Infantry. On that day the gentlemen comprising the ; Confederate oabinet rode up to tbo door of ( Gen. Wallace's residence and halted. They , were under the escort of General Ferguson's , cavalry, and were on their way to the South-, ward. The hospitalities of the house were _ gracefully and urgently tendered, and as frankly accepted, the halt however, being only for dinner ; that meal was extamporaneous, but elegant. I The party consisted of Jefferson Davis, President of the Confederate States ; John C. Hreckenridge, Secretary of war ; Judah P. Benjamin, Secretary ef State, and Gen. llcgan, Post Master General, Gen. Braxton Bragg was also of the party. The demeanor of Mr. Davis was quiet, courteous and self-possessed. He was cheerful, and ho passed a part of the dinner hour with the little daughter of Gen. Wallace upon his knees, with whom he interchanged many playful words. Benjamin was bright and cheerful ; . the others were quiet and thoughtful. When the party had dined, they resumed their ride. Mr. Davis bade the ladies and ] guests a cheerful "good bye ; " and as he shook J hands with them he said, "I am going across the Mississippi, and 1 hope some day wo may meet under more favorable auspices." 1 A fow days thereafter he was captured. The 1 others made their escape; and their subseqhent history is well known.?Athtville Citizen. * Gen. Jones is mistaken, in saying ttbat the young man alluded to was Gen. Wallaoe's son. It was Mr. E. R. Wallace, now President of the Merchants' and Planters' National Bank of this plaoe, and half brother of Gen. Wallace. Look Out Fob Fbauos and Imitations.? Take no other.
