Thompson has devoted much time and inquiry {
to the effort to mako the very best selection be

difficulties of bis situation, with his ohuico

Col. Duncan is young, energetic aud prog res*

of the great agricultural interests of
South Carolina, and ho bus tho capacity which

with a representation of agricultural

many this combination was impossible. Governor

Lynching in Tknnksskk.?Nashville June 22.
?-A Special from I'ulaski, Tenu., says : Kyle
Walker ami Harry Kecd, both colored, arrested
for supposed implication in the murder of
young Trice at Veto, Alabama, were released
on Wednesday, but certain persons believing
them guilty, investigated, found proof, and had
thein re-arrested. 11} threats, the fourteen
year old sou of Wesley Warren, who was lynched
on Tuesday, was forced to disclose the particulars
of tho crime, whioh were substantiated
by his mother. The goods and mule stolen were
found in the places indicated, nnd Walker and
Kecd were taken on Thursday night and lyticheJ,
They confessed fully before being lynched
but expressed uo feeling of regret.
Tint Sitton Siiiklds Tiiaokhy.?It Is generally
believed in Charlotte aud Mecklenburg County
that tho killing of J. Q, Hilton by Shields was a
0 foul aad brutal murder. The evidence will
* probably develop the fact that the accusation of
his sister's seduction was only a cover, and that
bis real purpose was to annihilate Sitton's testimony
in a case pending against him for house
% burning. The leelings u.'.the community have
assumed a dangerous and restless shape, and
fears are entertained that the slayer may yet be
lynched. Efforts of counsel will doubtless bo
made to have tho venue changed on tho ground
that lie cannot have a fair trial in Chailutie.
