"1 2w. i Tim Case op Kki?i<>si>.?Washington, August 13.?Strong appeals have come to the Federal authorities Trout South Carolina lor the portion of the noted Uciluiond, wl o is primarily the cause of the recent excitement over the revenue cases in that State, 'lite State authorities believe his pardon would have a beneficial effect ttpoti the largu number of illicit distillers in the mountains who have not yet accepted the terms held out by the Federal authorities to come in and confess their guilt, and then return to their homes nnd sin 110 more. The Federal authorities here do not take this view of the e :sc, but believe that but for the defiant spirit manifested by llcdtuou 1 there would have been no trouble, ami the government would have been enabled to ettforc the revenue laws without the loss of life or a conflict with the Slate authorities. lTp In this time the appeals for amnesty for liedtuoiid have produced no effect, and there appears to be uscttled detei initiation toeffec; ltcdmond's capture and let him feel the rigor of the law.? W hile a spirit is manifested not to prosecute those who have been violating the revenue laws in South Carolina, it is maintained that tW.case of llcdinond is outside of the others, and should lie dealt with separately. If the State authorities persist in their efforts to have the rule recently adopted applied to ltcdmoml, it is not impossible that after liis capture and conviction he nay be pardoned, although the talk here now lues not indicate this.
