H L L has been unanimous. y nominated by the Democratic caucus >f the New York Legislature as their andidate for United $4tates Senator. The Status of the Fore* Bill. WASHINGTON, Jan. 15-.-The total vote cast last nlight in the Senate on Iloar's motion to take up the election bill was sixty-six, exclusive of the vote of the Vice-Pres!dent. Twenty-two Senators were recorded as absent, in cluding twelve RIepublicais and ten Democrats. As a matter of fact, In galls was present but refrained from vo f.in-, and four ofthe Republican Senators while not in the chamber when the vote was taken were in the city. The actual Iepublican absentees were seveh in number-Blair, Chandler. Farwell, Moody, Pettigrew, Pierce and Squire. The Republican vote was thirty-three (exclusive of' the Vice-President) or eleven less than aquorum, so that it the Democratic Senators should resort to the plan of refusing to vote. and in this are joined by Stanford, Teller, Wolcott, Jones of' Nevada, Stewart and Wash burn (the Republicans who voted with them last night) the advocates of the election bill would require the atten dance ol'six ofthese seven actual absen tces before they could proceed with the measure or could act upon closure rule. On the other hand, it' the six Repub licans who voted with the Democrats last ni-it, should not go to the length of technical,y absenting themselves an(d should content themselves with casting their votes im opposition to the Republi can iuaJority, the latter would have an even quorum exclusive of the Vice-Pres ident's vote.
