The Wake ofr She Storm liet ickes Counhty. The storn of wind, rain and hail that crossed the lower part of this county on Wednesday afternoon of last weok, the 14th inst., was the most severe Htorm of the kind ever witnessedl by the olde,t inhabitant. About 3 o'clock p. m., an angry-look ing cloud was Ieen coming from the northwest which everyone in its track watched with a feeling of fear. The stormed crossed Keoweo river between the R. & D. bridge and Lawrence's ford andti struck the farins of Central town ship. At this point its path is about one and a half miles wide. Then it showed that the fears of tho peoplo wero not unfounded. tain fell in bucketfuls accompanied by hail, tho like of which had never before bcen known in this region, and the wind blow a perfect hurricane. Tho hail stones were the largest ever seen and fell in great quantities. Although the wind was a perfect tornado it could not be heard for the noise of the falling hail. Though the trees were falling and small buildings were being un-roofed and blown down, board s, plank and fence rails were flying through the air, no one was conscious of anlything going onl but the hail-storm. WNim1low%-glass were bro ken, shingles knocked oi, and in some imstminces weather-boartling split. The bark was peeled oil the t,rees atid limlbsp sil leaves covered the grind. There is no fruit 14-ft in its wake. In most in. stances the I-n it trees arl- as de:tituite of verdttre as in December. In the cotton fields where a few hours before had been a fine prospect for a bountiful crop, after the storm there was no sign of either plhant or row, the young plants haid been beaten into the gr(nIlll(t, atl all sign of the row effaiced. Splendid fields of wheat were cut dowi. anl iwaten ilp until it lookedt as if it had beenruln through a feed ehopper and scattered over the ground, and corn was split into ribbons. A strange peculiarity of this stArn was that at the same time, directly sonth und parallel with it, was ia hurricane traveling across the country, leveling fences amd trees without number. Its width was about a half-mile. The daimage done by the hail and wind will he lhi-4 to esti. mate. A report from ia few of the farms wilh only give a smill idea of it. L. Ros.q - Eaton lust almost his entire crop, (11111 aged about $700. The north part of Commissioner Martini's farimi was wiped hare of crolp and vegetation. Mr. Jil. - F. Lily's whole largb farm was swept clean from sten to stern. lie is dam aged over $1,000. On the Dr. Clayton place east of Centralthe <laimige is estilmia ted ilat. 500.. F. V. Clayton's entire farm was swept clean. J. Neely lqgg had 20 acres in cotton and l nrni of wheat swept as clean as Ia floor. A. Matt Boggs 60 acres of cotton, all worked over, en tire loss, besides 15 or 20 acres of wheat, diamage, $1,000; his filne pvacll iid apple orcharl was almost ruinedl. J. 1L. Oary and W. 1. Chapmia, adjoiniing farms, vero swept clean. Tleir loss will iaml1ount. to several hundred dollars. Earle P. Taylor and Tmi F. TaNlor had each a large crop which was looking well. After the mtorm their liehs wore barren. Basil (allaham anil M. T. ( B1110 Tom) Sinith w-ere ill the traek nild lost their crops, Smith's place Was alillost washed atway, afi the soil is ocI llmaged. Inl the Carmel neighborhool it swems as if the w .ind and hail united to ruin the communlliiity. Timnber- and tenlces were prlost.r-ateil. A great numiiber of the large statfely oaks around thmelchurchl were c'otwn dlown. Trees that1 liuul stood the .. stormns of1 a cenltury- were upr11 oted. Mr-.
