FARMERtS' CONVENTION. A REMIN)ER THAT IT OAN NOT BE A POLITICAL, BO1)Y. A Letter From n 'ronllncnt Farner, Re coiling a Resoluton or the Farmers An "ooiatlou-A . i'lCNt .Agaitnt lina Rule. 'o the Editor of The News and Cou rier: I respectfully ask the use of your columns to call the attention of the farmvra and citizens of 'ho State to the following resolution, passed without a dissenting voice at, the last regular Convention of the Farnier& Association on December 1, 1887. "Resolved, That it is ni. the pur pose of the farmers of the State to make their organiiation a political botiy, hostile to other classes, nor is it their intention to attack the integ rity of our State oflicer , nor their policy to arraign or dictate to the Legislature." It would seem clear that the Far mers' Association does not authoriz such an extravagant arraign -nont of the State Government as is contained inithe recent "manifesto" of their exe cutive committee. Capt. Shell himself was a member of the cornmitteo which reported it favorably, and voted for the resolution. In the face of this determined policy of the farner4, the executive committee of the A'socia tion calls a separate political Nomii nating Convention, and I must, think it not only unnecessary but totally unauthorized. The strongest, orgiii zation of farmers now in the Stite is the Alliance. That body tes nI seem to think it proper to a!I a poit iti cal convention and ignore aI1 ot her classes of citizens in the State The by-laws of that powerful orgeization utterly eschew polities, ani the Btrength of the Ordet is devoted to lie material help of its members.
