Trial Justice Johnston, of Central, sent a iegro to jail last Sunday for breaking into a corn crib. M. Geo. K. Hendricks has his steam saw mill ready for sawing lum-. ber. He will run a cotton gin in the fall. The wheat crop is being threshed and is making, generally, a smaller turn out than the farmers expected. The grain is good, but the heads are short and only moderately well filled. Good rains passed over the North, ern, Eastern and Southern sections of this County last week, but thc nliddle and Western sections are still dry and suffering very much for rain. Steam and water power is rapidly superceding horee power in this sec, tion. There is scarcely a cotton gin or grain thrasher now run by horse power. Thit is certainly one evidence of progress amongst us. In mentioning the closing exercises of the High School at this place we, inadvertently, failed to mention that Miss Lizzie Thornley and Miss Corrie Bruce, two model .lit, tle girls of our town, were awarded the two prizes offered by Mr. Cary at the commencement of the school. Mr. Jas. K. Kirksey, J. Perry and E F. Looper had an exciting fox race last week in the vicinity of Winches ter'e mills. Mr. Kirksev shot the fox -aifter the dogs had run it about an hour to prevent it's escapo by deizing in TurkeyCGcek mountain. It was a ~raf and weighed 96 pounds. ~ A Singer Sowing Machino agent lett his horse and buggy in front of the Sentinci Offiee last Friday, and .pullod off the bridlo to food him.
