Single ton Pastor, 1st Sabbath and Saturday befor in each month at 11 o'clock a. m. The heat is in the superlative de. gree. The temperance sentiment is tak ing deep root in this County. The whitling season with the mer chants and their clerks has arrived. The begira from the low country to the mountains will soon set in. The new store house is nearing com pletion, and will soon be occupied. There is to be a wire fence placed around the Methodist Uhurch lot this summer. Rain is beginning to be needed in 'this section, though the crops are not yet injured. There was a fino shower of rain in the neighborhood of Coxo's bridge on the Saluda river on the 18th instant, which made the hearts of the farmers glad. Rev. D. Weston Hliott preached the funeral of Miss Carrie Looper at Secona last Sunday Quite a large congregation was in attendance. The County Commissioners met on last Friday and transacted a good deal of routine business. Miss Lucy Hagood, daughter of Col. J. E. Hagood, is visiting her re latives and friends in Pickens. We had the pleasure of meeting our old correspondent "Bones" in tovn last week. lHe informs us that the crops are looking well in his section and that the farners are very well up with their work. CoNUNDRUM.-What is the sign whon a gentlemnan anid lady make bets on matrimony. A Chromno for the best solution. Two of our yoang mecn made an expedition into North Carolina re cently. Mr. Nix was badl3 injured in the spine in an accident ori the Greenville and Columbia Railroac several years ago, and was entirel3 without the power of locomotion and had to be wheeled about in ar invalid chair. Hoe was a brother t< Mr. WV. H. JNix, who now roeides neal Easley Station in this County. 4 RETIRING THE COUNTY BONDS. County Treasurer Bowen, .by instruc tions of the Board of County Commis. sionere, has purchased, with the sink ing fund in the Treasury for that par pose, $3,200 of the County Bonds which the Commissioners will, or hav< canceled. By this purchase, $188 ir 4 interest is saved to the County thi .yoar, and $224 annually after the Ii day of next Januaty. The Commis sioners think that they will be able with the eight mills now levied, to re. tire the first installment of $20,000 of the bonds by the time they fall due in 1885, and then, with a six mills tax the County will be able to retire th< next installment of $40,000 by th< time it tails due, and within fou rteer years, following up this plan. the en tire debt will be liquidated; but b3 keeping up the eight mills tax, th< bonds will all be retired within ter years, or less time. 4No County in the Stato is fnancially sounder than Pick A POTATO BuG -County Commis sioner Talley informs te thait a bug, about a half inch long, and abont half that in breadth, has made its appear ance in his neighborhorod, and is do, Ing considerable damage to the Irish potato crop. He says a latge number of the bugs &truck the North side of a half acre Irish potato patch of his, and are going through it in a Southern direction. They eat off all the leaves, literally stripping the vines, which dies, and the crop, with the exception of the potatoes already made, is en tirely ruined. The bug he informs us is of a grayish -color and made its ap pearance in small nunbors in his neighborhood lastyear, but he doesn't know whether it is the regular Colo, rado potato bug or not. The May colleetion of taxes in this County amounts to about seven thou sand dollars. Gray hairs prevented, dandruff re moved, the scalp cleansed, and the hair made to grow thick by the use of Hall's Vegetable Sicilian Hair Rcnew er. Worms do exist in the human body to a great extent, and are often the cause of dirase and death. Shriner's Indian Vermifuge will destroy and expel them from the system.
