LOCAL ITEMS. Mr. 0. P. Field, we learn lost an infant child on Sunday morning last. Dt.--Mrs. Aloy Baker, a moat' estimable lady, died, of pneumonia at her home, three miles West of this place on the evening of the 17th inst. We are autborined to state that Mr.,Samuel 0. Robinson, J. W. S., of the Order of Good Templars, of At. lants, Ga, will visit Pickens and de liver a temperance lecture on Satur day, the 4th day of December, in the Court House, at 2 o,clock, P. M. Ws,call attention to the advertise ment of our young friends, H. A. Richey & A. J. Wyatt, at Easley Station, who, in addition to their Livery business, have opened a fancv and heavy Grocery establishment. Purchasers, call and see whether these gentlemen mean what they say. They will treat you courteously and sell you goods low down for cash. We call attention to the advertise. neilt of S. Baswell, to be found in to days issue. Mr. Baswell, it will be seen, is offering a fine and choice lot of Merchandise cheap for csh or bar. ter. Purchasers will, perhaps, be greatly benefitted by calling on Mr.. Baswell, making his acquaintance and examining his stock before p r chasing elsewhere. He, doubtless, means business. CHEsTNUT.-The entire failure of the chestnut crop along the Blue Ridge Mountains, will, doubtless, be a great source of melancholy to many an urchin throughfout the whole State and also a source of regret to many a denizen of these mountains, whose annual revenue therefrom is entirely cut off. No "fires in 'the mountaius" will be seen this wiuter. Cannot the quaint ity whih one of our merchants held over, and which arc now well dried, instead of boing fed to swine, be turned to p)ractical account by boiling? ___ WEATuER.-Thec clerk of thes wea (her, for the past five or six dlays, is extremely fickle. Variety is said to be the spice of life, but the variety in the weather rece*ntly is not at all "dpicy;" on the c 'ntrary, it is very dIisagreeable, both, to man and beast. One day is cloudy and rainy; the naext, clear and sheeny. We never have seen a better' time to contract colds and sickness generally, than the sudden and extreme changes of the past two weeks. DEsERTED.-Goldsmit.h's "Deserted village" can be, in some degree, re, alized here, since the close of the Pickens H igh School. The scattering of the students to their several homes, each to receive, it may be, the comn snendations of his or her own little cir ole of friends and acquaintances fpr their further progress in knowledge during the Term just closed, has given to onr' town such deserted ap pearance and, indeed, such a want of accustomed liveliness, that it sug gests to us very forceably "Sweet Auburn, lovely village of the plain,' over whose fate Goldsmith poured out such touching tendern'ess and nuelancholy. It suggests, too, more than ever before, the great impor tance, nay, necessit.y of suataining var scol DR. Turr's EXP"EoIRAT.-This unrivaled preparation has perf'ormed some of the most astonishing cures that are recorded ina the annals of his tory. Patients suffering for years from the various diseases of the Lungs, after trying different remedies, spending thousands of dollars in traveling and doctoring, have by the use of a few bottles entirely recoyer. ed their health. A sojourner at Aiken, 8. C., wri te3: * NEW YORK, August 30, 1872. Da. MARIETTA, Ga., March 9, 1870. Xesare. Bradfield J C.-Gentlemen :-You will please ship us another supply of your invaluable FRMALM REGULATOR, and forward bill by mail We are happy to state that this remedy gives better satisfaction than any ar ticle we sell. We have been selling it since 1868, and witnessed many remarkable cures by it. Among others, there was a lady friend of ours who was sallow and sickly until she was twenty-six years old, when she was mar. ried. Her husband lived twoyears and died. She continued in bad health ; in fact, she has never been what a woman ought to be. A few months after the death of her husband, she saw your advertisement, and came to our store and bought. a bottle of your Regulator from us, and took it. according to directions. lIt has cured her sound and well, brought her regular monthly periods on, and to day she is a hearty, blooming widow--with the use of but two bottles of your Regulator, costing her only three dollars, when she had tried several physicians and spent a great deal of money without any benefit. Wishing you great succes with your valuable remedies. We are, respectfully yours, &c.., W. BooT & SONS. Oct 21 8 4 SIIERIFI''S SALES. STATE OF? SOUTII CAROLINA. P.ICKENS COUNTY. IN PROBATE COURT.
