Mr. Knox is a prosperous and well to-do farmer. Ho has a fine farm, and doubtless no farmer in tho county has a more abundant supply of everything that goes tri make for a prosperous and Independent life-a largo crib of corn: fine, fat mules and horses: largo, fat hogs to make meat enough for a half dozen fami N lies" Uko his; plenty of cows for milk and butter. He is what wo would term an irioal farmer. Mr. and .Mrs. Knox had seven chil dren-six sons and ono daughter. Tho daughter married W. A. Single ton, of Westminster. Ono son, Claude Knox, died about eighteen months ago in the railroad service in Arkansas. All tho living children were pres ent on this occasion-the first ro unl?n in over 20 years. Tho oldest son, James H., was in tho mail service sineo 1S0S, and while in the service, running from Charlotte, N. C.. to Atlanta, Ca., he graduated i ii medicino. Fifty years ago it would have taken all day with horse and buggy to make tho trip, and now wo make lt In loss time than two hours with an nutomihilo on tho lino top-soil roads with guard rails up in many places on elevated spots and sharp curves to prevent acci dents. This we consider a great safety In this day of reckless driving and dangerous speeding, and your road authorities aro to ho commend ed for having those protections made. I would be glad to see them not only on curves, but on all of the high om .unkmonts. * ' Wo aro glad to soo our county making suck fino progress, especially in road building. Tho man who In augurated Hie top-soil system came very near solving the road question, at least up to this time. And wc cer tainly enjoy riding over them. Thc only drawback is the dangerous and reckless speeding of those who re gard neither tho lives of others nor their own. ll seems to mo that our law-makers, could devise some means of preventing this speeding, and 1 hope they will enac'. some law'that will in some degree protoct the pub lic. 1 would like to say moro in regard to the progress that the twin sister counties have mndo in tho past fifty years, hut will not trespass on you* time and space.
