PRISONER FOUND DEAD IX OWJIJ. Sentenced in ?M?7 for Murder, Daniel Murphy Protested Innocence. Columbia, Nov. 16.-Dan Murphy, ono of tiie most unique figures ever sentenced to prison in Smith Caro lina, was found dead in his coll at tho penitentiary here to-day, ending 2 5 years of incarceration. Apoplexy ls believed to havo been the cause of Iiis death. A year ago tho Stato Pardon Board offered him a pardon, but ho refused to leave the prison. .Murphy was sentenced from Or nngoburg county th 1897 for the kill ing of County Treasurer Cope. To tho end ho protested his Innocence, claiming that he was In Augusta, Ga., at tho time of tho killing. He is survived by his widow and a son. who live nt Millen, Ga.
