A <;<:i)'> MAX IOU GOYIOHN'OK. Tho Un ff noy Ledger calls upon the tien, t?eorge ll. Cromer, ol" Newberry, to make Ibo race for Governor of j South Carolina. '-.Mr. Cromer is well known to the people of Cherokee c< unly," says Ibo Ledger, " and it is the opinion ot' ail that he w/>ubl moko a splendid Chief Executive." Tho Ledger ls right in its esti-. malo of George H. Cromer, of New berry, than whom tlmro is no more honest and consett." lions man in our State or Nation. Besides that he l as marked ability; be is a stales man by nature; a deep thinker anti a clear reasoner, and Iiis judgment is sound. Ile is a gentleman in tho line sense and in every sense ot' the ti im. South Carolina has many men of large calibre, men ot' big minds, men of Integrity and ability. The Ledger lias, however, in our opinion, called the attention of the voters of South Carolina to Ibo biggest, clean est, the truest type of gentleman to be found in our Stale to-day. Tile Courier most heartily endorses the Ledger's suggestion. We hope that Mr Cromer will take it as a call .i'r<.iii Iiis people lo offer himself for service to them in a time when the need of the hour is great men of his calibre. TH IO GA I CAVA Y TO HIGHLANDS, A citlz.cn of Walhalla brings to our attention the fact that Walhalla is "The Gateway to Highlands" ami suggests that some united action be taken by the citizens >f Walhalla to bring this fact prominently before the outside public, lt is suggested and thc suggestion seems a good one - that the Chamber of Commerce could k?inch a very strong and ef fect ive work in this lino by moans of olllcinl action in the matter by thal, body. Walhalla has always enjoyed a considerable business' In tho matter of transportation of tourists to the Highlands and other points. Now, however, with Improved roads lo tho mountains, our opportunity In the line of transportation will he vastly greater. It seems to us, as well as to tho gentleman who has called our attention to tho matter, that H is well worth consideration at tho hands of the Chamber of Com merce and tho citizens generally.
