OCONEEAN8 OF FORMER, YEARS. From Fur Away Como Personal Let ters to Cupt. S. K. Dendy, Sr. Capt. S. K. Dendy, Sr., of Seneca, has handed us the following lettors with the roquest that wo publish them. They will bo road with inter est, especially by those of many years, who may recall tho two gen tlemen who have written from dis tant States to tholr old comrade. From W. 1?. Mauldin. Waynesboro, Miss., April 11th, 11)2 2. Capt. S. K. Dendy, Seneca, S. C. Dear old Friend and Comrade: You will perhaps ho surprised to get this from mo, but havo had it in mind ofton to write you, as wo havo dropped our correspondence for a considerable while. And while I havo been "ruminat ing," as Bill Arp used to say, and thinking of tho past, I very naturally thought of you, and by searching in tho old drawer in tho drosser I found a letter from you, dated Feb. 19th, 1917, which, I think, is the last lot ter I had from you. Thou my brother visited South Carolina in 1919, and ho told mo of seeing you. Then Julia Shanklin wrote him in December last and sho made mention of your living now at Seneca, and that yoii had lost your wife not a great while back. 1 know new how to sympathize With a man who has lost his companion, as I have lost mine recently, Yes, on tho 13th of last month sho died after an illness ol* three weeks with some thing Uko grip, and was better, but had a weak heart and died in thirty minutos after taken for tho worse. Sho had expressed a desire to get well, but sold that sho was ready, which is worth it all. She was such a consecrated Christian and devoted v/ife. It means something to lose her, as you know by cxporienco. Wo had lived happily together for 5 4 years, and had raised a largo family. Eight of our children aro still living In this country, with families. Have broken up tho old homo and sold it to a son-in-law of mine, and will make my homo with my children the remainder of my days, which, ac cording to nature, will not bo many, with tho full assurance of mooting my sainted wifo on tho other shore. Brother Jimmio lost his wifo since he visited you all about two years ago. I have enough to make mo com fortable for tho balance of my days, so that I will not have to bo a bur den to any one, for which I am very thankful. If I live to seo tho 20th of July will be 79 years old. My wife lacked only a fow days of hoing 75 years old when she died; and af tor all these happy years of living with her I was not ready to glvo her up, but know il ls my duty to bow and say, tho will of Clod bo dono. Jack Dalton died two years ago. Ploaso write and tell mo how many of tho old Co. F aro still living. My general health is good, and I have no ailment to complain of, but feel old ago creeping on apaco. Write soon to your old friend and comrade. I will bo glad to hear from you ot any time. Remember mo kind ly to any old friends. Your old true friend, W. P. Mauldin. From Rev. J. H. McNoolly. 745 Benton Avo., Nashville Tenn., April 17th, 1922. My Dear Comrade: - Your noto with clippings received and heartily appreciated. I am sorry that thoro aro so few that tako inter est in tho actual history of the Con fed?ralo attempt for independence. Tho prosont generation seem utterly indifferent to tho high principles and heroic ondeavor of their ancestors to maintain tho original constitution. "Tho Confodornto Votoran" ls tho only organ through which thoy can bo addressed, and it is not sustained as it should he. As I write for it, at tho ago of 8 4 yoars, I fool that vory fow will ho really interested, but lt is a satisfaction at least to bear my testimony. My'confidence an-? my affection go out constantly to my old comrades, who aro willing to stand for tho prin ciples wo fought for th reo iscoro years ago. For timo does not alter principles, nor overthrow righteous ness. With kindest regards, Your old comrade, J. H, McNoolly, D. D. ( .apt Dendy's Postscript. But "true and tiled, never denied, and willing to bo tried again." So moto lt bo. Comrado W. P. Mauldin asks mo how many of our old C. F, Orr's Ri fles, aro yot living, and will say that, as far as I know, there aro but throo Found,-Huit glorious fooling that comos with a clear, puro, ruddy com plexion. c 4 I -W. P. Mauldln, Thompson Boar don and S. K. Dendy, Sr. Inquiry has brought to mo tho nformation that C. B. Jayne8, of Texas, ls also living, In which caso there aro still four survivors of tho old company. MOTHER, QUICK! GIVE CALIFORNIA FIG SYRUP FOR CHILD'S ROWELS. Even a sick child loves tho "frillly" taste of "California Fig Syrup." If tho little tongue is coated, or if your child is listless, cross, feverish, full of cold, or has colic, a teaspoonful will never fall to open tho bowels. In a few hours you can seo for yourself how thoroughly it works all tho con stipated poison, sour hilo and waste from tho tender little bowels and gives you a well, playful child again. Millions of mothers keep "Cali fornia Fig Syrup" handy. They know a teaspoonful to-day saves a sick child to-morrow. Ask your druggist for genuino "California Fig Syrup," which has directions for babies and children of all ages printed on bot tle. Mother! You must say "Califor nia" or you may get an Imitation. adv.
