HAVE YOU CONTRI HUTED? lt has been a custom of Tho Cou rier in every national campaign year to lend r.saistunco to tho National Democratic party in raising funds for the national campaign. This fund bas none of tho features of tho Re publican "slush funds" that have boen raised in each national cam paign year for uso in questionable ways lo secure the election of their candidate for tho Presidency. Tho Democratic fund is for tho purpose of defraying the expenses of speak ers to curry thu message of Democ racy into douhtfu? territory in a cam paign of education and enlighten ment aluns tho line of Democratic policy and principle. This year again the national load ers have decided upon the use of tho dollar campaign, and it is the hopi! of the party leaders that every Democrat will contribute his dollar to the national parly fund. Of course, contributions are not limited to the small amount of ono dollar. As a mut'or of fact, lt is desired that all those who can alford to do so will make larger contributions; hut still tho Idea ls to avoid soliciting ?real amounts from interests that would fool that, through their large con tributions to tho party they would he entitled to special consideration at the bunds of tho leaders after victory at tho polls has been secured and the party established In power for ano ther four yours. Tho Democratic par ty's Idea is to havo tho whole people interested directly In tho party's suc coss, and to share tho benefits of Democratic victory and Democratic governmont. We have received two letters this week in regard to tho dollar Demo cratic fund-ono from T. P. Coth ran, of Greenville, chairman of the State Democratic executive commit too, and tho other from Dr. C. M. We produce Dr. AValker's letter nnd trust that the people of Oconee will respond to his call. Dr. Walker's lotter follows: Westminster, S. C., Aug. ll, 1920. lion. ,T P. Cothran, of Creen ville, chairman of the Democratic party in Routh Carolina, has instituted the "Dollar Democratic Campaign" in this State, and ho asks every true Democrat to contribute ono dollar to help win tho doubtful States In the coming Presidential election. Tho presidents of all Democratic clubs In oach precinct in Oconoe county are asked to act as solicitors for this fund. C. M. Walker, Chairman 'Dollar Democracy /Fund, Oconoe County. Any who may find it convenient to contribute to this fund through The Courier may do so. Wo will receive any contribution seal us and ac knowledge samo publicly, remitting to headquarters as thc funds arc re ceived. Contribute your dollar-and make your contribution more than that If you feel that circumstances warrant your doing so. You may he assured that your money will he used only for the defraying of legitimate cam paign expenses. The Democratic party has no "slush fund." ?J. LOCAL AND PERSONAL. ?U - Major and .Mrs. A. (i.
