Smith, of Wost Union, last week lost a lino cow, the animal having gotten to some nitrate of soda where Mr. Smith had boen mixing fertilizer. Several others of his ani mals got to the nitrate and wore made very sick, but Mr. Smith was able to get aid to them in timo to .save them, Mr. Smith discovered tho fact ?hat tho stoek had been licking around where the nitrato of soda was, but thought nothing of it until tho cow was down and unable to get up. Ho did not know that thc nitrate would provo detrimental to ?be stock. For the information of others who may be placod in a position sim ilar to that of Mr. Smith, lt might bo well to state that, nitrate of soda lakes only a few hours to kill chick ens that pick up a few small pieces and got tho particles Into their giz zards.
