Columbia, Sept. 10.-That tho time has arrived when tho retail and wholesale foodstuffs markets should rolled the decline in prices on tho ! primary markets is the opinion ex pressed hy A. I). Oliphant, fair price commissioner Tor South Carolina. .Mr. Oliphant, who rocen Hy was ap pointed lo his position, said that all conscientious dealers in foodstuffs would give their customers the ad vantage of the decline in prices of their commodities and wouldjnot av liflcially maintain prices out 'of line with the orignal prices of sU&ji's that they had on hand or the replacement value of them. ' Fair price" committees have been appointed at various paris of South Carolina, and several lists of "fair prices" for foods have been printed in various parts ol' the State. By studying these lists, stated Mr. Oli phant, housewives could toll what food should cost, and, by persisting in their demands, can buy it at fair prices. "For the past live weeks or moro." said Mr. Oliphant, "the prices of foodstuffs at the primary markets have been steadily falling. This has given ample time for tho movement of these lower priced foodstuffs from the primary markets to our second ary markets. Tin; only arrest made was that of tho mill foroman whose wife yostor day fired into a crowd of strikers who threatened her and her children at their homo. Mr. Bagwell was a native of South Carolina and spent his young man hood in Anderson county, whore he was raised. Ile was an exemplary citizen, a member of tho Baptist church and a Confederate veteran. Macon, Ga., Sept.. ll.-Rioting . was resumed tn (ho mill district her* to-night, whore two thousand textil* workers have been on strike for near ly three weeks. After strikers and their sympa thizers had whipped Mrs. Alice Wheeler and her daughter, Lizzie Wheeler, they attacked the home of Mrs. W. T. Crosby, wife of a foreman in the mill. Mrs. Crosby and live daughters are employed In the mill. .Mrs. Crosby opened lire on a crowd of ">00 who bad congregated in her yard and in the street In front of her home and bogan hurling stones at the, place. Shouts of "kill thom" aroused the whole neighbor hood. "I shot six times at them and they scattered," said .Mrs. Crosby to-night. The police made three arrests in connection with the disturbance and asked Mrs. Crosby to appear in court in the morning. The police guard at Ibo mills was reduced to a minimum to-day on a promise of the strikers that women would not be allowed to do picket duty and that there would bo no disorder.
