Recently ho accepted a position with the Baldwin Manufac turing Company, of Chester, and will in tlic near future leave Walhalla to take up his new work. Wal lalla Tire Shop.-adv. lOtf. --Tho announcement of tho death last Sunday morning of Mrs. R. P, Kaufmann came as a shock and a sourco of great sorrow to many in Walhalla. Kew knew of her serious condition, and there wero many whe had not learned even of hor illness On Monday preceding her death she suffered an attack of what was sup posed to bo lumbago, and during the Bret few days of tho week she improved to some extent. On Fri day, however, ber condition became much worse, and it was learned that ber trouble was a serious kidney affection. Her condition grew stead ily worse until tho end, her death taking place early in the afternoon ol Sunday. Mrs. Kaufmann before mar riage was Miss Louisa Kricks, daugh ter of the lato Joseph and Rebecca Fricks, who resided on a farm neal Walhalla. The deceased was born at the old Fricks homestead, a few miles from town, on Juno 1, 18??? and would, therefore, had she lived until next Sunday, have boon CO ycart Of age. She is survived by her hus band and the following children: .1 H. Kaufmann, Misses Dora. She will have abb; assist ance in this department, and will ix; glad to see her friends whenever they are in need of new frocks.-adv -A most interesting occasion was that which took placo at the Victor Monaglian Mill school auditorium on h st Friday evening, when the llrst of the exercises incident to the clos ing of ibo school were hold. Tho entertainment was in the nature of a cantata, and wo havo not. hoard such uniform praise of any school en tertainment in our midst. The sing ing of tho children was perfect, and their wliolo bearing showed the re sults of their careful training at the hands of Misses Smith and McGee, who have had charge of the school and welfare work of the mill village this year. At tho close of the ex ercises the announcement of the sev ering of Mr. Reard's connection with tho local plant of the Victor-Mon ghan Mills was made, and expression was made publicly of the deep regret felt at the severanco of the pleasant business and social relations exist ing between the retiring resident manager, the mill officials and the school and welfare workers. Mr. Heard has taken quite as activo an Interest in tho welfare and school work of the village as he has in the management of the company's affairs locally, and he will be missed in all of the branches of the local plant's affairs.
