C., who has spent the past two weeks here with the family of bis father. Newton Crenshaw, has returned to his duties nt the Na tional Capital. Mr. Crenshaw, we are informed, brought with him two largo trucks to be used on the farm recently purchased by J. D. Cren shaw. - Will White, colored, lost all his household effects hy Uro on Sat urday, January 18th, while he and his sons were in Walhalla at work. They had left home early in the morning, coming to town to work, and left several small children at home. It some manner the house took tire, and no one who could ren der assistance being present, every t lng was burned to the ground. One of tho children was quite sovore I ly burned, narrowly escaping being fatally injured. The house, a small two-room affair, belonged to Neville Brothers, ol' West Union, and was situated on Hie property well known as the old Kinkenstadt place. There are many who will learn with deep regret of the death of Avinenilis Clark, of Westminster, which occurred at the Oconee Hospi tal last Wednesday night. Mr. Clark was a victim of pneumonia, which followed an attack of influenza. He was about. 155 years of age. and a young man of splendid character and business ability. He was just mak ing a good start in the business world, having established himself well and was doing well. He was married, leaving his wife and two children, one of tho latter, (the old er of the two,) a child of about three years, dying three days after the death of its father The entire family, we understand, have been stricken with intluenza, tho other members of the family having sur vived the disease. The body of Mr. Clark was interred in tho Westmin ster cemetery on Friday morning. Ho was a member of the Baptist church and was a consistent Christ ian. He was a son of Rev. J. II. Clark, of the Baptist church. The widow is well known in Walhalla, she being a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. Whit Grant. The sorely be reaved ones luive the sympathy of many friends here and elsewhere in thc county in their great sorrow. TIK? many friends of Paul H. Steck will regret to learn of his mis fortune in suffering painful and finite severe injury at Tullytown. Pa., on January l illi, hy reason of which he is now confined in ti hos pital al Trenton N. J., with tho pros pect of at least eight week's confine ment, according to Hie statement of physicians at. Mercer Hospital, in which Institution he is receiving at tention. Mr. Steck for some time p.ist has hold a position with a rail road company, having charge of (.*ains in the yards of the road for which lie works. About 9 o'clock in Ibo evening of (he 14th, in alighting from .a slowly moving engine, Mr. Steck's hotly was caught between tho moving engine, and another loco motive standing on (he siding. Tho "dead"' engine luid boen left too close (o thc track on which (ho mov lng locomotive was traveling, and Mr. Sleck's body was caught between the two. Mr. S(eck sustained a dis located hip, (ho pelvis was broken in two places, bis right arm badly cut near the elbow, and several in ternal bruises were noted by the physicians who have charge of his case.
