Craig, Walhalla.-adv -The body of Mrs. John H. Brown was brought up from Columbia last Monday ami taken to the Mountain Rest section for interment on Tues day. Mrs. Brown was taken sick about two weeks before her death, having contracted influenza, and the disease developed into pneumonia, causing her death last Sunday. Mrs. Brown was about 28 or 30 years of age, and was well known in this sec tion. Besides her husband she leaves two chil Iren and ber parents to mourn her death. Before marriage to Mr. Brown she was a Miss Hilg ens, being a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. K. M. Edgens, who resided in this county for some time, but about a year or so ago moved to Columbia, wbero Mr. Brown and Mr. Edgens were In business together. The be reaved ones havo the sympathy of many friends in their grief. Mr. Brown and his two children and Mr. and Mrs. Kdgens accompanied the remains to tho up-country. Inter ment was made in the Double Springs cemetery yesterday. Mrs. I Brown was a splendid young woman and will be greutlj missed by all who knew ber. -Had I received silver dollars for one bale, of cotton and the seed, I would have had 14 1-3 pounds of sil vor-$230.00 being tho amount re ceived. Guerney, Jr., came as a sur I prise ano shock to the people of Wal halla and cast gloom lover every quarter where he was known. Kew knew of his illness until but shortly before tho announcement of his death caine. Mr. Guerney one day last week, while at work In the plant of the Guerney Manufacturing Co., had the misfortune to get his hand badly injured, and finding that he could not work in the plant with any sat isfaction, ho decided that he would take an enforced rest with his wife and child in Chattanooga. Tenn., with relatives. He left Walhalla, by automobile in the afternoon of one day last week, and on arriving in Seneca stated that he was not feel ing nt all well. On arrival in Chat tanooga he went direct from the station to tho home of his sister, Mrs. T. J. May, and was put to bed at once, as he was suffering intensely with what, it was later ascertained, was a severe attack of pneumonia, Ile was n naide to wit lista nd tho at tack and died Sunday afternoon. His father left here on receiving word of his critical condition, and reached Chattanooga before tho end came. Mr. Guerney was a young man of Splendid character and fine parts, and his death is deeply deplored by many friends hero and elsewhere. He was born at Dover, S. Dakota, on Decem ber Uh, 188f>, being nt the time of hi? death Just nearing his 33d year. On March 19, 1916, ho was happily marled to Miss Elva Stout, of Burns ville, N. C., and his wife and ono child BU rv I ve him. Ho ls also sur vived by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. F. P. Guerney, of Walhalla, and two sisters, Miss Besslo Guerney, of Wal halla, and Mrs. T. J. May, of Chatta nooga. Mr. Guerney was a member of Blue Ridgo Ixxlgo, No. 0 2, A. K. M. Tho Courter joins with hosts of othor friends of the two bereaved families In extending sincero sym pathy in their great sorrow. Adv.-43-4;".. -Thomas Edward Sanders died at his homo 'nero last Monday morning after a brief illness from influenza, which quickly developed into pneu monia. He was sick for only a few days. His death comes with, a pecu liarly deep sadness, aa he leaves a widow and a number of children to mourn his death, the widow being a wife of but. a few weeks. His first wife died several years ago, and just about a month ago he married Miss Fannie Bethany Reid, a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. A. T. Reid, of Wal halla. He was a son of the late Rev. J. M. Sauders, and wa? born In this county Soptember 16, IX7R. Besides his widow and children ho leaves five sisters and three broth ers. The sisters are Mrs. D. F. Mr Alister, of Amerlcus, Ga.; Mrs. P. W, Hopkins and Mrs. Burt Hopkins, of Anderson; Mrs. Clem Wilbanks, of near Walhalla; Mrs. W. H. Brew er, of thc Wolf Stake section. The brothers are John Sanders, of near Seneca; James Sanders, of Return, and Robert Sanders, who lives near West Union. There are Ave chil dren by his first wife-Mrs. Joe R. Grogan, Selma Louise, Susan Emma, Charles Wm. and Henry Sanders. His aged mother also survives him. Mr. Sanders was a member of the Poplar Springs Baptist church, with which he had identified himself in early life, and was a member of the Richland Camp. Woodmen of the World. In the recent primaries he was nominated by a large vote for the office of County Supervisor of Oeonee and would have taken office at the first of the year. For some years past he had been closely iden tified with this office in the capacity of overseer under the County Super visor.
