W. I. SALIO POSTPONED BY DANKS Munt Bo Decided by Kier lion-Doe? Not Disturb Washington. Copenhagen, Denmark, Aug. 24. The LandBthing, sitting in commit tee, this afternoon adopted a resolu tion that If the sale' of the Danish West Indies cannot be postponed un til after the war the question shall be settled by general elections. The resolution was adopted by 39 to 7. Three members refrained from vot ing and 13 were absent. It is expected that the new consti tution will go into effect when the general elections are obtained. As it will be the first time that an elec tion will be held under the new con stitution, it is believed preparations for the election will take a long time, and it probably cannot he held before the beginning of the middle of October. Some inlluentlal poli ticians express the opinion that the result of the elections will be that the new rigsdag will ratify the treaty of sale with the United States. To Make No Difference. Washington, Aug. 24.-Senator Stone, chairman of the Senate for eign relations committee, announced to-night that action of the Danish Landsthing in rejecting the proposal to sell the Danish West Indies to the United States would make no differ ence in the attitude of the United States, nor cause any delay in tb" effort to have the treaty providing for purchase of the islands ratified here as soon as possible. "The action of the Danish upper house of Parliament," said Senator Stone, "does not mean a final rejec tion." During the first part of the war careful watch was kept by the. French general staff over thc way every regi ment and division acted, says the World's Work. In the acid test of hattie, this division proved its abil ity to advance under fire, that regi ment failed. Gradually the "crack" organizations were known. These picked men are quartered about 20 or 30 miles behind the lines, and they live like athletes training for a prize fight. They have great athletic Heids, where they play foot hall and practice Held sports. Theaters and music are provided for their amuse ment. While things are quiet at the front they are kept in as perfect physical and mental condition ar, art and science can devise. Then, when the commanders at the front need men for a charge against German trenches across the shell-swept fields, word is sent back for these special troops. The needed number are told off; they are loaded Into automo biles, carried swiftly to the front, singing and eager; they make their charge; trench troops move up nd occupy the ground they have gain <; and the attackers-such as are lc t of them-go back to their foot ball and training, to get ready to go to the next point in the linc that needs them. What the French have done the Germans and the British have done likewise. These "troops of attack" are a development of modern war fare. Beginning Third Year of War Finds U. S. at High Tide of Prosperity. New York, July 30.-The foreign cataclysm, now entering upon its third year, linds the United States at the high tide of prosperity. While liurope's powers continue their ex penditures of blood und treasure in incalculable volume, financial ex perts point out that the wealth of this country is piling up so generally and on such solid foundation as to remove all apprehension of inflation. Hank clearings, bountiful crops, earnings of railroads and Industrial companies, the enormous output of steel and iron, a foreign trade bal ance for the ilscal year of $2,136, OUO.OOO-these and countless other signs point to the unparalleled pres tige of the only leading nation of the world not at war. The course of events In this coun try after peace shall have been de clared continues to engage the atten tion of economists. In the small mi nority are those who declare that the end of the conflict will be followed by a tremendous Inflow of foreign ))iodines, to the great detriment of home Industries. Others profess to believe that Europe's peace or recon struction demands will inore ?than neutralize the aggregate of her of ferings to our markets. It is assumed also that cessation of hostilities will inaugurate a heavy re purchasing movement in our securi ties by foreign investors who deemed it necessary or wise to liquidate while war was ra?r,ng. To what extent this ........Y may be able to hold the for (.'?,11 trade already gained and yet to be acquired, seems problematical. Leaders of linance and Industry hold that the cost of labor and materials will weigh heavily in thc solution of this momentous question. The coming week ls expected to bring development of interest in the railway labor situation. Industrial conditions aside from loc \\ disturb ances, are more than ordinarily en couraging. Labor ls reported to be undergoing further "liquidation" at some of the war plants, but wage schedules remain unchanged, except in Instances where higher rales have been granted. There is much food for thought in the astonishing results of the physi cal examinations of the young mili tiamen. The fact that from 20 to 4 0 per cent of the members of State military organizations were unable to pass successfully the examinations, must mean one of two things, that they have been overtrained, or that they were in no condition in the first place to become members of the mi litia. livery man before he can be en rolled as a member of a military or ganization, must pass a physical ex amination. Tho result of this exam ination shows that we have a very large percentage of physically Im perfect men In the State militia. Does this mean that our young men are not taking proper care of themselves? Does it mean that Vir ginians are growing weaker physi cally? There should be an awakening! That is to say, the metal in the current 5-cent piece is worth slightly more than five cents. Five dollars' worth of nickels, if melted down, will selNfor about and if you cnn deliver the metal l i Gormany or Austria you can get more than that for it. Nickel is used largely In the manu facture of munitions of war, and this has caused a great advance In the price within the past two years. Practically all the nickel used in this country comes from Canada. Our own mines do not supply enough of the metal for the manufacturo of the nickel coins. If the price keeps on going up the government may have to pay more than five cents In order to get enough metal to turn out a coin of that denomination. She had no appetite at all, and would eat Beared) more than one biscuit for breakfast. She had twice been ope rated on for tumor and appendicitis. The first operation was not success ful, and the second was necessary. As a result, her health was under mined and her condition became very bad. "She was so weak she could hard ly walk, and she was so restless at night that she really was very little refreshed when morning came. She would wake us at night many times with ber groaning. She lost a great deal of weight, too. It was her side where the cuts were made when she was operated on that caused her so much pain. And, too, her system was generally out of order. "She has already taken three bot tles of Tanlac, and if I had not seen the improvement Tnnlac made in her condition, 1 don't know whether j would fully believe it could be so gloat, should some one have told me that. "Her health has Improved in every way and she ls very much stronger. She goes to sleep now just as soon as she gets in bed, and she sleeps soundly all night. Her nerves are quiet and strong now. though they troubled her a lot before she began to take Tanlac. She used to have had spells of headache, too, but Tan lac broke them tip and she has not Ind an attack since she began taking it. "Just before she began taking Tanlac she decided to go on a visit to Pell City, Ala., but was told she could not stand the trip. But she left for that city Just two days ago in fine health, so great was the bene fit three bottles of Tanlac gave her. "Tanlac is just a wonderful medi cine, and we can't say too much in praise of it, and I certainly am glad to recommend it. The Tanlac did her more good than any of the many other medicines she took."
