El Paso, Texas, March 17.-Tho Villlstas havo burned a railroad bridge, 25 0 feet in length, near Cor ratitos, in the path of thc American advance. This Information was re ceived hero to-day from sources be lieved to bo reliable. Americans Uneasy. Rapidly-growing uneasiness among Americans throughout Mexico, espe cially in the north and west, was evi denced to-day by reports from vari ous sections that United States citi zens were either on their way to tho border or were preparing to leave. At practically every pot nt of entry along tho northern and tho north western frontier Americans arrived to-day from the interior. In the ma jority of instances they said they were leaving aa a matter of precau tion, Tho'most significant report was re ceived front Durango, where the American vice consul advised that his wife and child bo sent out of the country. This followed closely on "Who arrival Inst night on the border of the American consul from Torre?n with a large number of Americans. Villa to Mountains. Mexico City. March 17.-Villa's forces wore last reported in the vi cinity of Pachoo, iiigChihuahua, 75 milos southwest of Queman, moving leisurely to the mountains. Ameri cans are going tho same way. Texas, News. ) The South Carolinians like the lieople of so many other States, seem not yet to have learned the applica tion of that philosophy contained in tho adage that, while one may lead a horse to water, one cannot make the horse drink. Tho South Carolinians can make the conditions for doing a fire insurance business in that State pretty much what they please. No one can interfere with their gratifi cation of any judgment or whim they may care to indulge, and, least of all, Hie insurance companies. But they have no power, legal or normal, to force the insurance companies to do bush ess in the State. Whenever lt shall appear to the insurance com panies that the conditions for doing business in South Carolina are de structive of their interest, they will have unimpaired tho absolute and inalienable right to quit doing busi ness in South Carolina. lt would forward our a fiai rs im mensely If legislativo bodies could he made to comprehend the obvious fact that no man can bo compelled to loud or invest his money.
