Tho date I ?'ne appointment becomes effective will he announced in a few days. j The appropriation bill provides an mn nal salary . $?1.000 for the su perintendent for the State Hospital. ; in a statement relative to the ap pointment of Dr. Williams. Governoi I Mantling says that he "allows a sal ary of $15.000" to the new superin tendent. The Chief Executive stands personally responsible for tho increase, standing security for it. He says that be will "report the matter j next year to the Legislature, to re imburse me if it agrees in what 1 have done." The im leased salary, however, does not allow a free house nor other perquisites, as is provided wit li the lower sala rj. Relative to the appointment of Dr. 1 Williams. Governor Manning gave out the following: "Following the revocation of the appointment of Dr. Geo. F. I "The salary provided for in tho ap propriation bill is $3,000, and the ?superintendent is given a house with ?water and lights and other perquis ites. I have found it necessary, in order to get the trained, skilled phy sician I was seeking for the position, to allow a salary of SG.000, but with out tho residence and without any perquisites. Fluidly Cultured i>y Sheriff and Landed In Places of Safety. Dublin, Ga., April 1 G.-Sheriff Watson had an exciting experience yesterday with two violently insane people near be *J. Burney Williams, a young white tuan \\ln> had already spent som?? time in Hie Stato asylum for the in sane, became violent during a squab ble with his youngei brother at the home of bis mother, M r.s. Geo. Wil liams, during the afternoon. Sheriff Watson was called, and when he en tered tho room williams brandished a knife and cut his own throat with it. Mr. Watson rushed at him and the young man ran into tm adjoining room ami fell on a bed, where Mr. Watson caught and overpowered him. The wound in his throat is not serious, although a long gash was cut in I he flesh. Hardly before he was through with young Williams information was re-, ce i ved by the sheriff that a negro named Tom Hall was attempting to kill his family about 12 miles from the city. With deputies he went to the negro's home in a cai" and found him sitting in tho door holding Winchester ride prepared to shoot any one who came near.
