Eastern trout, with the Germans slowly with drawing from "tho Niemen toward their own frontier. At the same tline the new offensive against Warsaw and on the Pillea evidently has not yet developed into the great engage ment which has been expected in that locality. Roth the right and lort Hanks of Hie German tones in Northern Ro land have been dislodged. Petrograd dispatches state, from the positions they took up on the advance from Hast Prussia. The Herman right is said to have beaten a hasty retreat to within eight miles of the border. To-day's official report from Her lin, however, says 'the Russian offen sive is being met successfully. Seve ral Russian assaults on the Herman right are said to have been repulsed. A further advance hy the Russian army striking into Turkish Armenia, along the shore of the Black Sea, is announced at Petrograd. H is claimed the Russians have occupied ini|vort ant positions beyond the Tchuruk Uiver throwing back the Turks with heavy losses. In the West the only new feature lately has been the allied air attack on Ostend. In the Champagne re gion, where the French are assuming the offensive, a snowstorm has given a forced rest to the troops. lt it not unwelcome, for they have beer almost constantly engaged for Hu past fortnight.
