President Wilson Set? Sunday, Octo
ber 4th, Aside as Day of Prayer,
In last week's Courier President
Wilson's prayer for peace proclama
tion was briefly mentioned, he hav
ing set aside Sunday, October 4th,
as the special day. His proclamation
lu full is as follows:
Proclamation.
"Whereas, great nations of the
world have taken up arms against
one another and war now draws mil
lions of men into battle whom the
counsel of statesmen have not been
able to save from terrible sacriilce.
"And whereas, in this, as in all
things, lt is our privilege and duty
to seek counsel and succor of Al
mighty Cod, humble ourselves be
fore Him, confessing our weakness
and our lack of wisdom to these
things.
"And whereas, lt ls our especial
wish and longing of the people of
the United States in prayer and coun
sel and all friendliness, to serve the
cause of peace;
"Therefore, I, Woodrow Wilson,
President or the United States or
America, do designate Sunday, the
.Uh day ot October, a day or prayer
and supplication, and do request all
God-fearing persons to repair, on
that day, to their places of worship,
there to unite in their petitions to
Almighty Cod, that over-ruling the
counsel of men, setting straight the
tilings tiley cannot govern or alter,
Laking pity on the nations now in
tile throes or conflict, in His mercy
and goodness showing a way where
men can see none. He vouchsafes
his children healing peace again and
restore once more that concord
among men and nations without,
which there can be neither happi
ness nor true friendship, nor any
wholesale fruit or toil or thought In
the world; praying also that He for
give us our sins, our ignorance of
His holy will, our wilfulness any
many errors, and lead us unto the
paths of obedience to places of vis
ion and to thoughts and counsels
that purge and make wise.
"In witness whereof, 1 have here
unto set my hand and seal of the
United States to be affixed.
"Done at Washington this Sth day
oT September in tao
year of our Lord one
thousand nine hundred
and fourteen, and or
the Independence of the United
States of America the one hundredth
and thirty-ninth.
"Woodrow Wilson.

"Secretary of S<tate."
