Before the meeting to-day the far mers ot Lexington gave Senator Smith a demonstration. Pollock was the first speak er, and he was heckled by a portion of the audience, but lu? mel each at tack with quick repartee. In referring to the attempted as sassination ol' Dr. McIntosh a mem ber of thc audience cried that Dr. McIntosh snot himself. "You dirty, coward you. sou know you lie when you charge Dr. McIntosh with shoot ing himself." Mr. Pollock retorted. Citizens of Columbia launched a campaign to raise sj I.ooo for the arrest ol' thc assailant, who is suppoesd to have escaped in an automobile. Mr. Nor wood is a kinsman and life-long friend of Dr. McIntosh. Clubs in Columbia (Mosed. Columbia. July 24.- -Acting under orders issued by Governor Blease in bis speech al the Columbia Theatre yesterday morning. Chief State Con stable Eugene L. Klbler yesterday afternoon closed the buffets at the Ridgewood. Columbia and Metropol itan clubs. Chief Kibler stated to a reporter that the orders he left with the management of the clubs were that the buffets were to remain closed until further orders.
