Sho was 85 years of age and had been in failing health for some time. Little Miss Nellie Pickett, of Clem son, is spending a while with her grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. John B. Pickett. A. S. Crumpton and two children, of Westminster, visited at the home of H. N. Rankin Sunday. Little Miss Dessie Crumpton will remain for a week's visit. Misses Agnes Ellison and Lucy Patterson visited the family of W. H. Doyle near Walhalla last week. The residence of Jasper Doyle came near being destroyed by fire last Friday morning. Some papers had been thrown into tho fire, from which Hie soot caught, but the blaze was carefully watched until it. was thought that no spark had alighted on thc roof. About an hour after, however, a crackling noise was heard and tho roof was discovered to he on lire. Had ii not been for the quick assistance rendered by about, fifteen near neighbors, white and colored, who gathered within a few minutes after the alarm was given, the fire would have been beyond control.
