A very commendable practice that bas for several years been In vogue in Walhalla is that of taking sub scriptions and contributions to a fund, which is used to purchase small articles for the poor children of the town at Christmas time. Had you ever thought bow many children there aro, even in a town the size of Walhalla, who, so far as their own pleasure and enjoyment are concerned, never know that the great Christmas-tide comes? How many there are who must get their enjoyment solely out of the happi ness and gladness as it ls reflected from those more fortunate around them? And then, can you not Imag ine, how hollow, how meaningless, how painful such reflected pleasure must be? Christmas will soon be here. Will yours be a happy, joyous one? Share it with thoso to whom this gladsome time must bring at best a pang. .lust when, and with whom, this commendable custom of raising funds to "scatter sunshine" in the shadowy places of Walhalla at Christ mas time originated, we do not. know, but it is a custon) that, commands the hearty approval of all. and in this good year of lilli, let us make the fund exceed all previous collections taken for this purpose. For the convenience of all. contri bution boxes for this fund have been placed at Bell's drug store, the Cash Grocery Store and Norman's drug store. As you go about your Christ mas shopping stop and think. Com pare your condition with that of some less fortunate one, compare the happy scene thal will take place In your cheerful homo, among your happy children, who will have plenty, and to spare, with the scenes where Utile ones will hover about a cheer less fire In a cheerless home, with naught to remind t hem that Christ mas Day is the celebration commemo rative of the hirth of the Great Gift of Gifts to mankind. Remember these little ones and drop into the public Christmas con tribution boxes as your heart dic tates. MATTERS AT WESTMINSTER. ?Six Weddings Scheduled foi- the Holi days-IACIII News.
