Gignllllat, of Seneca, a Im pound bale of long staple cotton at 17c. per pound, tho small bale net ting liim $64.94. Sam made this cotton on ono acre, having gotten the seed through Congressman Wyatt Aiken. He planted his cotton in rows three feel apart, the growth of i he long staple being cons'idernbly larger than the ordinary staple. He is delighted with his yield and says that it paid bim better than any cot ton he has ever raised. The tomahawk is quito an elaborate affair in its way and is supposed to have belonged to a chief, being larger than the ordi nary, and supplied also with an addi tion in the way ol' a detachable pipe bowl, thus serving the dual purpose of an instrument of defense and of fense or tho most peaceful of all oc cupations, that of taking a good, quiet smoke. J. Franklin Caveny, the famous car toonist, clay modeler and impersona tor, has received the endorsement of Senator La fol?ete, of Wisconsin; Otis Skinner, the actor, and Opie Read, the novelist. He is .ably assisted by Marie M. Caveny, who possesses a soprano voice of great range and beauty.
