PROTRACTED MEETINti CLOSES. Seventy Now NUIIICH Added to the? List of Moiiiliers nt Walhalla. With the service nt the Walhalla Methodist church iast night the pro tracted services wore brought to n?| close. Tho meetings wero largely at tended throughout and a deep Inter est was manifested by the people of Walhalla and surrounding commu nity. Kev. S. H. Belle, D. D., of At lanta, ' conducted tho meeting throughout, assisted by Hov. A. El. Drlgger?, tho local pastor. Tho meet ing was characterized by a strong and forceful .presentation of the Scrip tures by Kev. Helk, and the visible results have boon far beyond the ex pectations ol' the pastor and olllchils of the church. Croat and lasting ood ls hoped for. Seventy new iiembers have boon added to tho uwnbership of tho local Methodist church by profession of faith and by letter. And it is expected that score or moro will unite with tho other denominations ol' the town. The meeting was opened Monday night ol' last week, when the first service was held preparatory to the dedication o? tho church on last Sun day morning. This service was an interesting auu very Impressive one, and aside from tho people of Wal halla there were many from near-by points to take active part in il. The service proper was In charge ol' Hov. Dr. Helk, who was assisted by Hov. Mr. Driggors. Tho church building was presented to the Con- j terence by ibo trustees ol' the con gregatlon, after which, with Impres sive ceremony. Rev. Mr. Helk and h's assistants dedicated the building to the service of Cod. An admirable music program was rendered in con- | noe ti Ott with tho dedication service, ? which wdll long be remembered by \ those present as ono of tho most im- I press!ve and inspiring ever hold in | Walhalla. Sunday morning, at the Sunday | school hour, a decision service was I held. At this service twenty-live j members of the Sunday Behool do- . elded for Hie Lord and joined the chu rob. Tho scene was very imp res-1 sive and will linger long in the minds ol' those who were permitted lo witness tho ceremony. All denominations of the town have taken an active part and Inter est in tbf mooting, and lo this fact, which ls an index lo tho good follow- , ship and feeling of all the denomi nations, is due In large part the' groat results attained, The pastors and members of all denominations have been constantly mingling to gether in all the services. The Methodist church ls to ho con gratulated upon the excellent work begun upon the eve of occupancy of their new church building. lt has been occupied for several months by both church and Sunday school, ow ing to the fact that the obi building was in snell bad repair that occu pancy could not be delayed until the limo set for dedication of tho new building. Vor the past few year? changes and Improvements la Walhalla have been taking placo one after tho other so rapidly that lt has long since ceased to cause our peoplo to stop everything and stand and look on In open-mouthed wonder. Our people have become accustomed to see things change and Improve and they lake these things now as matters of course. lt bas been many a day, ho wow since the whole side of the town bas boen transformed from a verita ble wilderness Into a desirable resi dence section, as bas been done by 13; H. Horton, representing tho An derson Real Estate and Investment Company. The term transformation does not adequately express tho Im provement that hits been made In the old Bulwinkle Hill. .Mr. Horton has simply made a now section of Wal halla. His work In reality adds to the town ii large area that did not exist before. His Idea was primarly, of course, to make a good residence section of the large tract of land which bis company some Hmo since bought. This tract lt; well known as the Bul winkle homestead. Beginning bis work Mr. Horton know the necessity for streets and .lohn street was open ed and graded by him to the north of Main street; North Broad street, (heretofore a wilderness) was open ed to Bs full width of 200 feet, and Johnson and East Boundary streets were likewise opened in full width north of Main street, running en tirely through the Bulwinkle tract, Int croser ting on the other side with the public roads leading to good seo. Hons outlying. Aside from the open ing of these streets laid out In the plan of the town. Mr. Borton bas also provided for ample and conven ient streets ' through the section opened and laid off by him for resi dence lots. A winding driveway traverses tho entire section east and west, and this ls on a throe per cent grade, so that one can walk or drive the entire length of the properly from Hie lowest )>nrt to the highest and never realize that he bas ascended a bill. The lots have boon laid off with a view to convenience and desirability for residences, and many of these who have visited Ibo place aro of tho opinion that (hoy can with but little expense be made ideal homo places. In fact, thal is just what ls going to happen over on Bulwinkle Hill. lt is the residence section of tho town for the near future, and within the next few months there will bo ham mers and saws busily putting to gether tho structures thal will bouse many i ii ?zens, lt is worth any one's time and trouble to go over and seo all i bat has boen done. This work on Mr. Horton's part ls going to result in great good to Wal halla as a whole and to her citizens Individually, To-day there ls scaroe : ly a vacant house in town, and dur ing the past six months a dozen fam ilies bave (dt her remained in other places or moved to other parts sim ply because (bey could not ronI homos or buy properly low enough lo justify their moving to Walhalla. Mr. Horton's plan does away with tin1 feature of high priced property. On tho 20tll Of October these lois are > going to be sold, and ho bas set no price cm them. Thc purchaser will do thal when ho buys. Tho lots will be sold al auction to t he highest bid der. This will give everybody an op portunity to got a homo place at a reasonable price.' Another feature (hat is a good ono is the one that Mr. Horton bas decided upon, per muting a small cash payment down ai ibo time of purchase, the balance to be paid in s- til monthly install ments. This a nts practically to paying rent for ?any months, and at I lie last paymo . the building lot is yours. Walhalla has needed just such a sale of residence properly for a long limo, and tho sale on the L'util of ibis month ls going to bone lit many a man who will hereafter own bis own home and stop tho rent drain. No such Improvement to a piece of propel!y has boen made hore 111 many a year, and no such opportuni ty has heretofore been offored to our people to secure homos, as is now presented through the work bf Mr. Horion. Wo bas conferred a favor on the people of tho (own, and wo hope that they will readily soi the advantage of securing homo property while lt ls cheap. A few years boneo I liest? same lots will be sidling for double or treble what Uley will bo sold for ill this salo. - - ? ?. ? / Long Crook Locals. Long Creek, Oct. 8.
