Persisted in, It Breaks Down ( ells of the Drain. Modern science has brought to light nothing more curiously inter esting than that worry will kill, says Physiological Therapeutics. More remarkable still it has been able to determine? from recent dis coveries just how worry does kill. lt is believed by many scientists who have followed carefully the growth of Hu? science of brain dis eases that scores of the deaths sot dowii to theil' causes are duo to worry and that alone. Tho theory ls a simple one, so simple that any one can readily understand it. Briefly put, it amounts to this: Worry injures beyond repair certain cidls of the brain and thc brain be ing tho nutritive center of the body, tho other organs become gradually injured, and when some disease of those organs or a combination ol' them arises death finally ensues. Thus worry kills; insidiously, like many oilier diseases, lt creeps upon the brain in the form of a sjmplo, constant, never lost idea, and as a dropping of water over a period of years will wear a groove in thc stono so does worry gradually, impercepti bly and no less surely destroy the brain colls that lead all the rest, willoh aro, so to speak, the CO 111 j mantling officers of mental power, health and motion. Worry, to make tho theory still stronger, is an irritant at certain points which produces little harm If it comes nt intervals or irregularly., Occasional worriment the brain can cope with, b tho iteration and the reiteration of one idea of a disquiet ing sort, the cells ol' the brain are not proof against. lt ls ns If tho skull were laid hare and tho surface^pf the brain struck Hgt lily with a hammer every few seconds with mechanical precision, with never a sign of a stop or tho failure of a stroke. Justin this way (loos tho annoying Idea, tho madden ing thought that will not bo dono away with, strike or fall upon cer tain nerve cells, never ceasing, di minishing the vitality of tho deli cate organisms that aro so minuto that they can be seen only under tho microscope.
