There were about sixty guests present, and the occasion was one of treat pleasure and fraternal profit. I. ?. Jr.. died at his liome below West I nion last Sunday it 12 o'elock m. Ile bad been ill for several weeks, suffering from ty phoid fever, with which his family lias been scourged during the past two months, and from which three of Iiis children aie still seriously sick. Thc 8-cent market Tor hogs which reigned in July, lias been exceeded by the sale ol* 8fl head of Oklahoma porkers, weighing 200 pounds on an average, at a price of $8.02 They were shipped by A. F. Downey, of Marlow, Okla. Tlie hogs that went the S-cent hog one better were led on grass nit until July 15. Since then they have been fattened on corn. Mr. Downey ligures that hy converting the corn into hogs lie realized $1.40 a bushel for the corn. The breaking of the S-cent record caused much excite ment about the stock yards. The 8-cent hog Hist arrived on the Fort Worth market July iG, last. At that time fifteen head were brought by F. P. Carson for the Case Packing Company al that price. This week's record-breakers were sold by Mr. Carson. The purchasers were Ar mour & Company. Atlanta Woman Suicides. Atlanta, Sept. 15.-Fearing a slow death by consumption, Mrs. Steve C. Glass, wife of the former council man, committed suicide at her home in this city yesterday afternoon by inhaling gas from a rubber tube suspend? d from a chandelier. She was found by her husband when he returned to the home at dusk, locked in her room, and it is supposed that she had been dead for several hours. At dinner she had been unusually cheerful, bul In a hi ter which she left she said: "You will find the money belong ing to the First Baptist church ina blue box in the top of my trunk. Ga., Sept. 10.-Henry (Jar red.a young white man. 2."> years old. was shot and accidentally killed by Iiis brother. Napoleon Garrett, last night. They lived about two miles west of this place. Henry had been away Hom home, and. returning at a late hour, took :i chicken from his buggy which had been given him by an uncle. The noise attracted the attention of the brother, who seized a gun, went to the back door and fired, tho load laking effect in the face, causing al most instant death. Judge of Sixth Circuit. Borden, of New York, were opened as usual to-day, the weavers, numbering one thou sand, tailed to report for work, and an hour later all six mills composing the plant wert shut down. Five thousand operatives are thus tempo rarily thrown out of work. The weavers previously announced their intention of striking to-day to enforce their demand for an increase in wages. Their absence so hamper ed the other departments that the management decided to close the en tire plant until the difference should be settled. Maine Workers Hot urn. Saco, Maine, Sept. 13.--After an Idleness of about three weeks, the 2.200 employees of the York mill of this town who were thrown out of employment by a strike of 150 weav ers, returned to work to-day. The weavers went back to work to-day at the old rate of wages, but the mill management promised to do some thing for them as soon as possible. Appropriation for Schools Exhausted For the information of all con cerned, please allow me to state through your columns that the ap propriation made by the last Legis lature to aid weak schools has been exhausted. This is exceedingly grat ifying to school authorities over the State on account of the lively inter est which was awakened in the rural communities to get the benefit of the State money. The total appropria tion was $20,000, and our last check was received Monday morning, mak ing a total of S I. Mit.i'i2 for the weak schools of Oconee. lt is earnestly Imped that the Legislature will not only renew the former amount, but that they will see ht to double it. \V. C.
