Mr. Humphries has made quite a reputation here since he start, ed In the clothing and shoe business. - Mrs. H. daPonte ls seriously ill at the home of her daughter. Mrs. .>. A. Steck. She ls suffering from an affection of the heart, complicated by other troubles. Ker friends here hope for her early recovery. As soon as she is able to stand the trip she will be taken to St. Joseph's Hospital, Atlanta, for treatment. -W. T. Walker returned last Fri day from a business trip to Charlotte, where he bought a farm, which will be taken in charge by Mr. Quinby, of Walhalla, In the near future. Our peo ple will regret to lose Mr. Quinby and his mother from our midst, but they will carry with them the best wishes of our people, who will welcome them again to our midst at any time. . -Mr. and Mrs. L H. Harrison left last week for Landrum, S. C., in re sponse to information announcing the serious illness of Ceo. A. Harri son, at his home there, lie has been suffering from a severe affection of the heart. Latest reports, however, are to e effect that his condition is somewhat improved. His many Wal halla friends hope for his early re covery. -"Watch the Fords go by." -There will be a layman's rally and singing at Holly Springs Baptist ( burch next Sunday. Tliey were accompanied by Philip Hoffman, who will have charge of thc fine open-work department of the lletrtck Hosiery Mills. lt is quite probable that Mr. Hoff man will bring bis family to Walhalla In the near future. Mr. Hetrick has purchased the Mrs. Ida Darby residence on Fac ulty Hill, fronting on Mauldtn street, for $2,000, and will soon move to his new home. They are most cordially welcomed to our midst. C. F. Het rick is also here, and will move bin family in the near future. --The Wise and Otherwise Ch b held a business meeting at Pitch ford's Hall last Friday afternoon, at which a great deal of work was dis posed of. At this meeting the scrap books were brought in and sent tc a number of shut-ins; also a course Of work was planned for the next time. Miss Norma Moore was pro posed for and received as a member The club decided to subscribe for thc Sunshine Bulletin, a monthly maga zine, so as to keep In touch with other Sunshine societies. Garrison and two sons and Jesse Grahl, of Denver, were In Wal. halla for a short while last week. They had been on a fishing trip to ('hat tooga. -Walhalla and Fairview base ball nines played another match game last Saturday on the Walhalla diamond, the score resulting 11 to 7 in favor of Walhalla. - Misses Georgie Burns and Geor gie Elford, of Charleston, are at their cottage residence in West End for the summer. Their many friends in Walhalla are glad to welcome them again. - Rev. L. M. Lyda has resigned as pastor of the Bethlehem church, in Beaverdam Association, the resigna tion to lake effect the fourth Sunday in August, that being the ead of the associational year. There will be regular services in the Walhalla Baptist church Sunday at 1 1 o'clock a. m., and at night ?it 8.30 o'clock. The ordinance of bap tism will be administered at night if the arrangements for saino are com pleted as now expected. --Tue Woman's Missionary Soci ety of the Walhalla Baptist church will meet at the church Saturday af ternoon at 3.30 o'clock. Mrs. I. W. Wingo will he present at the meet ing. All members are urc' to he present. - Mrs. C. M. Nield and two daugh ters, Dorothy and Maude, of Vicks burg, Miss., are visiting at the home of Mrs. G. K. Maxwell. Tiley will be here for several weeks.
