Some lady members of the Wal halla Baptist church are planning to sell meat sandwiches, hot coffee and iee cream on the Public Square dur ing the coming term of Court for the purpose of raising funds to re paint their church. Isbell, west of Walhalla. The various Sun day schools desire to extend to Mr. Isbell their thanks for the use of the grounds and courtesies shown. -Greenville News: "G. B. Jor dan, a successful truck farmer living near the city, exhibited two fine specimens of the "White Pearl" va riety of onions at this office yester day. Mr. Jordan ls well known in Oconee, his wife being a native of this county. Gaines went to the home ol' Sam Hyde to serve a warrant on John Hyde for violation ?o' i ne revenue laws, he was met nt the door by Sam Hyde, who present ed a shotgun ill Mr. Gaines's face, and held him at hay long enough for John Hyde to escape from the house. The gun was finally taken from Sam Hyde and a warrant sworn out foi him en the charge of Interfering with the revenue officer In discharge of lils duty. He was arrested and brought te jail Wednesday. A pre liminary hearing was held Thursday afternoon, when Hyde was hound over for trial in the Federal Court at Greenville, bail being fixed In the sum of $.ri00. N. .1., June 21.-Declar ing that she had killed him in de fending her good name, Pearl Paska, the 18-year-old Hungarian girl who wns charged with the murder of John Lucas, near here, sovoral weeks ago, to-day In Mercer county court plead ed guilty to manslaughter. She was sentenced by Judge Reed to three years in the State prison. The girl claimed that Lucas had made defam atory remarks about ber character. $8,000,000 Por Pound for Radium. New York, June 22.-The price of radium is now $8,000,000 per pound (of twelve ounces).
