No figures from other counties in the circuit. State Senate-Earle re-elected by 300 majority. House of Representatives-Sulli van elected; second race between Mann and Brown. Sheriff-Second race between Kay and Fitzgerald. Clerk of Court-Craig probably elected. Supervisor-Second race between Phillips and McAllster. Coroner-Second race between Kerr and Bo>d. Roanoke, Va., Aug. 22.-When Ed ward Cook, of the Finney neighbor hood, in Tazewell county, to-day quarreled with his wife in their home he drew a long-bladed knife and swore he would cut her throat. Be fore Cook could put his threat Into execution, his wife grabbed up a shotgun that stood In a corner of the room and blazed away at him, the load taking effect In the man's face, lils nose and nr.rts of the cheeks were torn away and both eyes destroyed. Cook will not survive. Several mem bers of Cook's family have been shot to death in pistol duels in the past few years. The candidates for the Legislature from Florence county have declared if elected they will support a prohi bition bill If one is introduced in the next Legislature. Logan Hamey Shot "Little Bill' Thrift at Long Creek Yesterday. Logan Raniey was brought to Wal halla yesterday evening at 7.30 o'clock and lodged In jail. Ramev and "Little Bill' Thrift became en gaged In a dispute over the election I about 2 o'clock yesterday afternoon I at Long Creek, and Raniey shot j Thrift In the abdomen with a single i barrel shotgun, the shot taking effect just below the navel. A physician at Clayton, Ga., was sent for, but I so far no report has been received j as to Mr. Thrift's injuries, though the opinion seemed to be that he will not recover from his wour-1s. lt was not known If Thrift was armed. T'.ie dispute and shooting took place in the second story of .1. H. Cannon's residence, the two 1 hy ing gone there, lt ls stated, to dis cuss some feature of an election dis pute. Both Ramey and Thrift are well known over Oconee as fearless men. Raniey ls a son of David Ra niey. ls about 23 years of age and unmarried. Thrift is a son of Wm. Thrift, decensed, who was a prom inent figure in his section in politi cal matters during his life. The af fair ls deeply regretted on all sides, but particulars are very meagre. Both fami.les are prominent In the Long Creek section. Thrift ls mar ried and has a wife and several small children. Wm. Thrift Died this Morning. Farly this morning Coroner Ilolle mnn was sent for to hold an Inquest over the body of Wm. Thrift, yester day shot by Logan Ramey. Mr. Thrift died about sun-up this morn ing. A Card of Thanks.
