Jackson, Miss., January 10.-That the mild weather now prevailing over tho State will play havoc with , fruit prospecte is the fear being ex pressed by leading horticulturists. From several oounties come reports that peach ano pear trees are spring ing into blossom, and unless cold weather intervenes within the next few days all hope of a good fruit orop will be abandoned. In the southern seotion of the State the thermometer haB varied from 65 to 82 degrees during the past week, and the sap is rising rap idly in nearly all kinds of fruit trees. Horticultural experts agree that the outlook is one of muoh gravity. The number of fruit trees in blossom is not relatively large, at the same time a continuance of the present temperature will mean a general blossoming forth within a few days, and havoc will follow, for the farm ers oan hardly hope to escape freez ing spells in February and March. The present winter, in every re spect, has been very unusual. There has been only one freeze in the cen tral part of the State, and that was very light. - mom Cured of Lumbago. ?. B. C., Lon don, Sept. 22, 1906.--I have been meaning to write to you all for some time, bat thought I would wait until I had lomething new to write about. We arrived io London a couple of days ago and sinoe then have been revelling in the English language, even to the advertisements-and read every one I come to. Ton see these are the first in nearly five months. London is a jr. rat place, and so large you o?m't imagine it being filled up with very large old buildings, seeming very dignified, aa muoh as to say that they've had their abare in making the world's history. I'vo taken in. the Piccadilly, Re gent Street, Park Lane, Hyde Park, Ludgate Circus, and all the places you read so much abonu I also attended morning servioe at Westminster Abbey. It was beauti ful, the organ having thevmost beau tiful tone of any I ever beard. A great part of the service was sung by a very fine choir. As I sat and liet ened I couldn't help wondering if Borne of my old ancestors hadn't sat right there in times past, for some how I believe that some of them had something to do with tho making of London, for in the Abbey yard are monuments to many Sir Lewises, and I regret now not sparing time to take off some of the epitaphs. I couldn't begin to tell you what the Abbey looks like inside, except that the stained glass, ceiling and everything are very fine, while all around the edges are monuments to the memory of England's great men. I noticed a great many being eon- j neoted with our revolution, and i among them are Pitt and Fox, two < men whose names are always coupled j together beoause they were such bit ter enemies, and now they have two of the finest monuments in the Abbey, and are sleeping their last? sleep almost together. There is niuo a very fine monument to Wolfe and many others of men connected with Amerioan history. I bought some post oard piotures of the Abbey, and finally sent them all to Aunt S- and you, as I thought you all would appreoiate them more than anybody else. I am afraid I won't see as muoh of London as 1 had hoped to, for Mr. H- was very unwell all of day be fore yesterday, and we've scarcely ! left the- hotel. Day after to-morrow we leave here \ for Boulogne, where we take the Ht earner for New York, and, although I have enjoyed my trip immensely, you oan't imagine how glad I am that we are homeward bound. We have traveled nearly ten thousand miles since leaving home, and I've seen the greatest cities of the great countries of the world - hustling New York, where everybody seems to be way behind in their work and in a hurry to catch up ; sober Berlin, with its wide streets and easy-going people, whioh is a model place for New Yorkers to rest up ; wild and woolly St. Petersburg, giving yon an idea of what things looked like in "ye olden times ;" happy-go-lucky Paris, where they try to make every thing pleasant to the eye, with its fast women and little insignificant men, and last, but not least by any means, is London, with its fine old pile of buildings, its narrow, wind ing streets, the whole city seeming to be very stern and dignified, like rome old parent who has a refractory child to deal with, and I guess she does have a hard time ruling all those dominions that the sun never sets on. Seems to mo tho sun must have set on a few anyway, for they're certainly hatching troublo. That's what I told an Englishman the other night, and cam9 pretty near having a acrap. Of all tho countries I have been to I would say that Germany suems to bo the coming country of the world. I hopo to find somo mail from you all awaiting .'juc at the steamer. Guess when this reaches you I will be well on myjway home. i>. s. L. This is the last of this series of letters. St. Lo?is, Jan. 16.-Immediately after Miss Loda N lem an, A No. 1,415 North 84th street, beoame the bride of Jacob Glaser, last night, she had to give away 400 kisses. The ceremony took plaoe at Druids Hall, and was according to 'he old Jewish custom. As soon as the minister had finish ed saying the words which married the two young persons, the 400 guests swarmed toward the altar. The newly-made husband barely had time to take the first kiss before his bride was being saluted osoulatori ally by another young man-young and old, little and big*-everybody got his or her kiss. When the oxer, oise was through the bride was nearly exhausted, but beamingly declared that if there were any person who had not received bis due she stood ready to see that the omission was corrected. Both bride and bridegroom fasted for twenty-four hours preceding the | wedding. To celebrate the breaking of their I fast they drank of the nuptial wine, a wedding present-and dashed the glasses to the floor, where they were broken into a thousand pieces. Washington, Jan. 6.-Every negro sol dier in the army is to be sent out of the country. They are all to go to the Phil ippines.
