Last November the church abolished the old plan of assess ment of members for paying the pastor's salary and adopted free will weekly offerings instead to cover thia and all other church expenses. The calendar is attraotive with views of the church and other illustrations. It contain? ap propriate verses and words on Christian Jiving, and an elastic band ia affixed for olding the weekly offering envelopes. -Mr. and Mrs. W. T. He is a olever, genial gentleman, and his visits to Walhalla are greatly appreciated by his many friends here. -Dr. John B. Morton, whose age is 85 years, waa stricken witb paralysis of his right side on last Saturday night at the home of his sou, Cbarlos B, Morton, in Walhalla. He is critically ill apd is not expected to live. Dr. Morton is Well and favorably known to many of our people, who will be glad to bear of his improve ment. -W. A. Mason, of Lavonia, Ga., spent some time in Walhalla this week visiting at the home of Major and Mrs. Jae. Sea born. He ia a brother of Mrs. Seaborn, I and his occasional visits to Walhalla aro appreciated not only by bis relatives, but numerous friends as well. Perry, noar Salem, this county, on Saturday. December 20. 1006. She had boen in declining health for some throe years. Sho had a serious fall about that timo, the effects of whioh renderod her almost helpless. Though a oonstant sufferer, she hore her trials with great fortitude. Sho was about 90 years of age, aud leaves two sons, E. A. and Silas Perry, tho latter a resident of Six-Mile, in Piokens county. Mrs. Perry waa a devout christian, and since early childhood waa a consistent member of the Six-Mile Baptist church, in the ceme tery of which cuitroh her remains were laid to rest Monday afternoon, Decem ber 31st. In hor death a real mother in Israel has been callod to her reward. She departed this life greatly beloved and deeply regretted, and has entered tho realm invisible to roap the reward of a long life well apent. Gantt, one of the best known citizens of Fork township, died at his home at Broylcs at midnighc last night, after an illness of only a few days. Mr. Gautt was about 70 years old. He leavea a widow, who waa before ber mar ringo Miss Matilda King, and four chil dren, two sous and two daughters. One of bia daughters, Miss Mamie Gantt, ?B employed in M. M. Mattison's Insurance agenoy, in thia city. Mr. Gantt was one of the best citizens of the county. He bad alwaya taken an active interest in all publie affairs, and was well esteemed by all who knew him. He was a successful fanner and bad also conducted a country store at hU home for many years. He was at one time a member of the county board of commis sioners. Mr. Gantt was a consistent member of the Methodist church, his membership being at Smith's Chapel, and the inter ment will take place there at ll o'clock to morrow morning. We regret that we wore unable to tako notes of tho program, but we can say I that everything was of the highest order, | and much appreciated by the large audi ence.
