Wo aro reliably informed that timber mid wood has been out from these lands fur bridge building and other purposes thru tho immediate use of this institution. We recommend that such praotioe be discontinued and that all timber aud wood bo proservod for the nocessitios of tho poor farm. We have also visited aud oxamiued the jail and find it as well kept as the pres ent facilities will admit. Wo recommend that sower pipes bo put in for the pur poso of gottiug rid of scouring wator and for like purposes and also that some plan be adopted for supplying tho prisoners with drinking water. We li.ive uot niado examinations of the county offices at this time, deferring that work until tho next tor m of Court. Wo are ?ware that tho Couuty Com missioners of this couuty are greatly hampered by reason of the largo number of bridges that have had to bo rebuilt, entailing a large oxpendituro of mouoy, and we commend thoir zeal in striviug to meet theso difficulties. Yet we would recommend that, in viow of tho vital im portance of good roads, they experiment on tho worst placoB in some ono or moro of the most important roads by raising tho roadbed in low places, thoroughly draining samo and using saud in heavy layers on tho clay. And for tho purposo of preserving saud for this purpose, wo recommend that thoy forldd the uso of sand from the public highways for pri vate purposes. This experimental work ' can bo dono by tho county forco without a great expenditure of money. Sovoral had places in thu public roads have been brought to our attention and wc recom mend that those having knowlodgo of such places needing attention bring tho matter to tho attention of tho County Commissioners and that said County Commissioners have sante repaired ns promptly as possible We recommend that tho County Com missioners and all tho Magistrates com ply with tho law as to tho examination of Af agistrates's dockets and constables' costs. And wo will expect this recom mendation to bo complied with. Wo aro roliabiy informed that W. H. Dean and Florence Baldwin, of Center township, aro living iu adultery and that C. L. Washington, March ">.-Official infor mation received hero of the cyclone and tidal wavo on thc islands of Society and Tusmotu, shows that tho first report was greatly exaggerated. The report says tho colonies were devastated by a tidal wave and cyclone February 7th and 8th and Tahiti particularly suffered. Threo hundred and twenty-seven housos wore destroyed in Papoet, tho capital of Tahiti alone. Ono death resulted. Two ships woro sent to Tusmotu islands with help and provisions and havo not yet re turned.
